How the heck..????? (EBL wire harness)

Wanted to see if I could get some tips here.

I am trying to remove the red and blue connectors from a burned out PCM (Thanks again for the help on this Richard!) to make a wire harness for an EBL install. I've seen some other threads where guys take the red and blue PCM connectors out of a donar PCM and then use a set of wire harness connectors to make up a wire harness so you can run the EBL ECM and the stock PCM as needed on my particular truck 16197427.

I did my best to de-solder the pins but there is some sort of glue or coating on the board that I think is helping to hold the connectors to it. Is there something to remove that or do I not even worry about that? I don't want to break any pins on the connector by prying too hard. Has anybody done this before that could give me some tips?

    thanks.!!

there's silicone goo on lots of gm boards?

you can just scrape it off if the board is going to get wasted anyways.

i reccommend protecting the connector itself and desoldering with a hot air gun, that always works awesome for me when i have to salvage stuff, except you have to be aware you are spraying molten metal everywhere. you need to melt the solder on all the pins at the same time, and it'll just come right off.

I've used a small torch at times to do this task, but it takes care, to just heat the board/solder and not damage the connectors themselves.

Since the ECM itself is sacrificial, just continue prying the board as you move along the pins heating them, and working back and forth. It will take time.

A very hot soldering iron is key. I have also found that adding some fresh solder helps the old solder to melt.

There is also a product, so I don't recall the name, that when added to existing solder, lowers the melting temp to the point where it will stay molten for a LONG time and allow large devices and connectors to be removed from a circuit board with ease.
The man who says something is impossible, is usually interrupted by the man doing it.
