    gm efi on a bike?

this is a 'just for fun' project im thinking about, just for a challenge

i have a twin cylinder, twin carb, parallel air cooled bike. we're talking an old single cam 450cc engine that redlines at 14k rpm.

right now its a gravity fed vacuum slide carb system, with cdi ignition (so it does have a pulser coil for crank positional reference)

there are systems for small engines, but that's no fun!

i want to hack up some kind of gm fuel injection system to work with it.

probably something low pressure, a single (fairly small) injector and throttle body, open loop only, map based.

there's plenty of room where the airbox will be coming out to mount electronics.

i could keep the stock cdi ignition system, but i'd rather have ecm control over that too.

anyone have any ideas for a gm ecm that's been hacked sufficiently to be able to run a tiny twin cylinder engine like this?

oh one major challenge is the charging system output. i will have to convert every damn light on it to LED just to power an ecm and an injector, let alone a fuel pump. luckily it's a fairly nuts n bolts bike already, even the tach is cable driven right off the transmission.

if you read that thread the hardest part is the rpm cap at around 9600 ish rpm

..... the 9600RPM limit, is that a code limit, rather than hardware? because i've run my bench "engine" beyond 15,000RPM as a 6 cylinder and it was still functional as far as i could tell.

I started to think about a delco based ECM for a 2 stroke V6 project I'm working on, but MS is much more flexible and advanced in that respect... Not to mention the durability of the unit itself when exposed to weather.

comes down to processor speed and if it can keep up with calculations you may start missing injection events or major calcs in the code.would all come down to clock speed and number of processes it needs to do in that time.

As much as I love my Delco conversions, for a bike I'd be looking at something else, something more compact and water resistant/proof.

As for weatherproofing you could always either pot the computer or even put it in some kind of case. Really so long as the thrings outta a splash zone it should be alright, unless you plan to do some off roading! Ive been contemplating a motorcycle injection too, 1982 honda Sabre. The carbs never work right, so why not?
