The cam in your engine is not computer controlled. I think your confusing that with maybe newer vehicles that are or looking at cams that say Computer Compatible?
Don't be fooled by computer compatible cams, they are either so small you may as well keep stock or you won't see any difference till tuned anyway! Fast will keep you dialed in with your motor build!
Yes keep the 63965, you have an E trans right? So the mask for that PCM is usually $0E, which is as good as 97427. Your ECM is basically same thing. Or do you have a manual trans and the other type ECM with similar number? Pull out your glove box and find out what's in there, it will have a four letter code, the BCC of the chip as well. Then you can start looking at it in TunerPro RT. Free to use but please pay the small registration fee of $39.

Yes tuning is hard. It takes a lot of reading, learning and practicing. If it's something you wan to do? You'll be rewarded for the rest of your life with a new time consuming hobby! If you don't have the desire or time? Don't start and just have a tuner fix you up with a chip for the motor build.
One thing you should have is a cable to hook up to your truck and laptop. The tuner would need data logs and this fits the bill. This is as good as and even better then a scantool. Which is a must have tool if you work on your own vehicle.
