    Smile My intro noob post

    Hello

I have a 95 GMC Van with 5.7 and an automatic transmission it has a 3.42 gear ratio, the van gets about ten mpg.

My goal is to get better mpg, I would like to see 19 mpg.
I would also be interested in Lean cruse mode.

I have done a routine tune-up, set the timing, changed the plugs, repaired the known vacuum leaks etc.

I will start data logging after build a cable or buy one.
I have not identified the computer installed in the van, it's very hard to get to.

    1. I am using Windows 7, Is this going to be ok?
    2. Can I use a usb for data logging?
    3. Should I download both tuner pro and winaldl?

Please post a few links to get a noob started.
    Thanks

    Welcome.

    Win 7 should be fine.
USB cables are much easier than getting a serial to usb adapter.
Just download turnerpro rt, don't bother with winaldl.
You will have to identify the PCM in order to know which files you will need to dl to log.\
This forum has lots of info, start reading.

You should be able to do better then 10. But getting 19 from a huge brick at highway speeds is wishful thinking.

Depending on your gear ratio the lean cruise may not even help. It does not help at all when a vehicle is at high load at cruise speeds. It works with my stock 2wd Suburban and 3:73 gears hwy MPG 17.5+ but have yet to see any gains from a 4x4 Suburban or anything comparable lifted, big tires etc...

Should not be unobtainable even in that brick. My old 305 with flat top pistons, 081 heads, stock 350 cam, tri-y headers, and TBI making 230 rwhp would push around my 83 G20 very well and would get better than 20 mpg on long trips with lean cruise enabled. I had a 700r4 and 3.08 gears. Open loop lean cruise worked with it very well.

My Express is 1000+ lbs heavier, spins 500 rpm more at 70, does not have lean cruiseenabled and has a 330 rwhp 350 and still gets 18+ mpg on the highway.

10 mpg if its on the highway at a sane speed is wrong. On the otherhand, around town with my lead foot and heavy traffic my 2014 Titan only gets 10.5 mpg on my 5 mile each way commute. My Express is a little better at 11.5ish.

Link to building an ADLD cable. Cheap and worked well for me.

There's also this option, helps out the Forum with a purchase. Cheaper than anywhere else too.

    Thanks for the welcome!
I have another question about this !995 Vandura.

The ABS and and airbag lights are both illuminated.
Will this have any affect on the engine management system?

Moates Burn1 or Burn2 chip burner
    Moates Memcal adapter
    Some 27F512 proms
TunerProRT with $0D XDF and $0D ADS
I had a known good read of BJYN on moates website in the file section along with one I had tuned for my 350 TBI in my 1983 G20.

I downloaded TunerproRT, where can I find $0D XDF and $0D ADS?

TP RT appears to have a very high leaning curve.

    I have been reading this.

2nd post of the thread you referred to. Download these 2 files
    A217 $0D TP5 v250.adx
    Advanced $0D TP5 v251.xdf

Some good references on getting Tunerpro up and running

Thanks, I got these two files downloaded now.

Am I ready to data log now after I get a ALDL cable.

    My MPG is terrible.
I can not use overdrive on flat roads and the lock up T/Converter seems to search around between 40 and 50 mph.

You know we have been given the entire Moates Fileman section awhile back. Everything is still there, un altered from when Moates gave it to us. Look for Moates folder in link below.

    Which one should I get?
Can the ZIF simply be removed so the cover will fit?
