    Noob questions

Firstly i have been cruising this site for a few weeks trying to wrap my brain around what im attempting to do. Lots of good info here and lots of it straight over my head. So i guess a little up front info is needed to get the answers im looking for. I have a 85 gmc k jimmy, the engine is a 305 from an 87 trans am ho. I have cammed the engine it is a lunati pn 0016lk. the lift is .458" advertised duration 284 and duration @ .050 is 218. It also has headers and 3" exhaust and a home brew cold air intake with a snorkel. Truck runs real nice with this set up, minus annoying carburator induced hickups. I use this truck for off road use only.
So i recently went to the bone yard and took the complete tbi set up, wiring and computor from an 89 k2500 p/u. It has the 1227747 computor with a chip that has bcc AKWU. Now i think that i have given almost enough info so here comes the questions.
    1. I would like to use my existing HEI ignition separate from the computor. Im afraid that the cam i put is will upset the knock sensor and would like to not use one. Is this possible?
    2. Can anyone point me to some one who can tune locally?

    Thank you all in advance
    chuck

yeah you dont need a knock sensor, it'll be fine, but you should have full computer control over timing, computerized timing control is half the benefit of efi!

is it a roller hyd. lifter cam? if it is, i doubt you'll have much false knock. that's not a very big cam, mine is a similar size and i dont get any false knock even with really cheap roller rockers (but that's an lt1 so the analog side filter is a bit different?)

I had a Crane 272H10 with noisey 1.6:1 full roller rockers in a TBI application and never had a hint of false knock.

Dropping in a EFI controlled distributor is to easy and benefits are to high to even think about what your doing.

If noise is causing a Knock issue it can be removed in the chip/bin.

Where is this location your looking for a tuner in?

I'll post the same as everyone else has posted - use the ECM controlled timing. It doesn't make any sense not to use it and the better timing control is a big advantage to give up. Your cam p/n is bad so is that cam the 10120416LK? That cam won't cause issues with the knock sensor. Install it and use it.

false knock is just something you deal with.

most of the time its not across the board. you find a spot or two where the springs and cam create a nasty acoustic signature and set the knock sensor off, and even with very low timing, it still registers knock.

i just zero the max knock retard for that particular part of the RPM range, and set fairly conservative timing there so it wont actually knock, good to go. you get to keep the knock sensor for the rest of the rpm range.

You'll be happy with the EFI controlled distributor

I don't know anyone up there? If you need a tune I could do this, just send me a PM.

As for the cam Lunati 10120416LK

And the purpose of vehicle as Off Road Only! What kind of Off Roading? This cam is more mud bogger then rock crawler...

The TBI will help all the off angle situations. But it can't make power from a cam that starts at 1500 RPM.
