    '0411 PCM V6 vs. V8 Differences?

I'm wondering if there are any internal differences (injector drivers for example) V6 vs. V8 within the '0411 PCM? Usually I get V8 '0411 PCM's, but this time when I read the calibration, it was flashed as a V6.

It does not make sense to me that GM would build a PCM, knowing there could be many different engine applications the PCM would be used for. It would seem to me that GM would build the PCM to fit as many engine applications as possible. Maybe the volume of production would allow for a V6 '0411 and a V8 '0411? The cost savings of parts for 10's of thousands of PCM could provide a substantial production cost savings?

Maybe there is a way to look at the circuit board inside the '0411 to know V6 vs. V8?

All of the 512 Kb PCMs (Blue / Red connectors) are mutually compatible - whether a 4896 (99-00) or 0411 (01-02) variant. These will operate V6 truck engines, Gen I (Vortec) engines, and Gen III LSx engines (4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0/8.1).

The 1 Mb PCMs (Blue / Green connectors) used from 2003 until 2007 are NOT mutually compatible.

    Good information!

I'm wondering can an OS from the '0411 be flashed into the '4896 PCM? ... I recently encounter a '4896 PCM, that I wanted to flash with an '0411 OS. I decided not to flash the '4896 PCM with the '0411 OS. I went ahead and modified the '4896 OS.

With EFILive - absolutely no issues in doing this.

With TC - doing this will often corrupt the PCM's unique serial number - making it impossible to license the controller with HPT or EFILive in future.

TC appears to use one flash protocol with the 1999 & 2000 OS, and a different flash protocol with the 2001 & 2002 OS.

same part numbers = same parts. any 0411 should be identical to any other 0411 in terms of hardware, software will obviously be dependant on vehicle.

The PCMs being discussed here have a Service Number, Hardware Number, and 4 letter BCC designation. Match all 3 of these, and you have the same part. The early PCMs (512 Kb) are fairly forgiving - the later 1Mb PCMs are not.
