Thanks... I officially have a headache now after trying again to understand whats going on.
I had tried to learn this stuff a year or two ago, and didnt need to do much at the time. Now I dont remember much of anything, and my trial of winflash has run out. I was supposed to install gears this weekend, but UPS screwed me, and now it'll happen when I get around to it. Along with fixing the speedo after I do the gears I'd like to maybe tackle the issue of the car running really rich at idle. If I could ever start absorbing all that I've been reading I might find more stuff to "fix".
that's all simple stuff, last time you tried to tune, you probably didnt have the xdf that i tuned up for usability, http://resfilter.net/files/carstuff/EEX/
how have you determined that it's running rich at idle?
it's nearly impossible to correct idle fueling on these cars without forcing it into open loop (otherwise, no matter what you do, the o2 sensors will just set it back to normal...), but there are ways to do that

Yeah, money isnt an issue... was just a bummer when I realized I was missing something.
The assumption of running rich at idle comes from fuel mileage during the winter. When its single digits outside and I have to leave for work at 6am, I let the car run for 30 minutes or longer. My car takes forever to warm up already, and in the cold its worse. On the weeks where I have to run it for those long periods like that my fuel mileage is a lot worse... like 12.5ish mpg instead of my usual 17.5 mpg that I get when I can just start up the car and leave quickly. On those cold days it idles before work and after work.
Winter fuel milage is always worse! Even without Idle Time being 0 MPG...

Is it bad that I take my car out in the snow? :)
Only if your state uses salt on the roads!
My truck fuel mileage with the remote start my son had installed for Christmas dropped by 35%...

Husband traded off our truck that had remote start for a new 1le Camaro... so now we have two stupid Camaros and nothing to use in the snow. My tires do better in the snow than his tho... his car cant drive on anything but dry pavement.
I make an effort to wash the under carriage a couple days after a snow (when the roads are dry again). Salt is a nasty thing.
i drive mine year round, cold snow ice whatever bald tires, you just have to know your car, and there are some things it just will not climb, that's all.
tell me exactly how long it takes to warm up?
no check engine lights on?
how cold is it where you live?
No lights, no codes... Its been as low as -2... I dont sit out there and wait to see how long it actually takes. I just know that when I've started it 20 minutes before I planned to head out, I still had no heat and the gauge read cold. Even in the summer time my car runs cold. The only time my car ever gets hot is after a lap (autocross).
When it does finally heat up tho, I get plenty of heat from the heater and have to keep the fan on low so I dont sweat on the way to work.
