    94 chevy truck

i have 1994 chevy truck that has pcm 16196395 and a manuel trans it used to have a 4.3 v6 but that is long gone. it now has a 5.7 that up till now had a holley projection on it but i want to remove that and put a factory TBI on it. i am having trouble finding 5.7 with 5 speed manuel bin files to use. i am new to programing a gm fuel injection so any info you can give would be much appreciated. i learned the holley units but they are quite a bit differant .i have the moates autoprom and tunerpro but there is so much there i dont know where to start.

Your 16196395 PCM is basicly identical to the 16197427 PCM.
Read here for lots of good info, real through all pages.

i have read all the pages of that thread and all threads attached to that thread and i learned a little but am still pretty confused . my engine is a 1972 350 bored .030 over with 1993 chevy truck heads and a cam with specs of 224 duration and a .460 lift so my best guess would be to start with BMHK 95 C-K Truck 7.4TBI 5 speed.BIN (64.0 KB, 54 views) and tune down to my engine. do you agree? i know once i get deep into this i will pick it up quickly and will able to tune this engine but getting it running and driving a little is the first and hardest part. once i get past that i hope to be able to figure out the rest. one more question do you think i will be able to tune this engine to pass an emissions test if i should have to do one in the future ?

Well your picking up fast! I would have chosen that bin too but have done a few of these and found it is better to use a 5.7L auto bin and turn off the trans stuff. The 7.4L engine is a different animal and there's a lot of things that need tuned out, which became a PIA. Where the 5.7L auto seemed to not have any of the issues that usually appear when a manual is used. BJYL seems to be a popular good start.

Tailpipe Emissions should be able to be met. I've done it on similar engine in a state that was idle and roller dyno tail pipe test... But state to state is very different on what's allowed and how they do the tests.

So need to look in another thread for an $OD file that will work in your $OE PCM.

Since the PCM will run either mask try OE and OD both and see what works better for you. I know Mark and others prefer the OD 5.7L auto .bins but I found happiness with the 7.4L manual .bin in my particular set up and I tried both.

I will agree with mark, start with a 5.7 bin and turn off the trans stuff.
I started out with BMHK and ran it for a long time, but the problems and quirks were annoting. I switched to a 5.7 auto bin and tuned from there and it was so much better. There really wasnt too much to do to get it to work with a manual trans just fine.
I would reccomend you dont run BMHK, I got to where I hate that bin. I would start with something like BJYL.

JeepsandGuns and I were doing this at same time and I agree.

Maybe brain617 started with something different?

In my situation with not having stock heads or cam I was going to have to change a lot of things anyway. I found better driveability with my standard trans with the OE manual .bin. However I had to make many changes to the 7.4L .bin to make it work. One interesting qwerk I found with the OE .bin was that when decelerating closed throttle the BLMs would always lock at 128, this caused a somewhat rich decel (dependent on VE table values) which actually helped with tip in after decel. I could push in the clutch in and they would start to change and my AFRs would go back to stoich. The OD .bin did not do this, it would maintain stoich on decel unless DFCO was active. Again try both, I just had better luck with OE, but I might be the only one lol.
