    duraspark reluctor phasing

I got a Ford Duraspark distributor from the junkyard to be used in my 351W TBI conversion. So far:

    -taken it apart
    -replaced the pick-up coil
-welded the mechanical advance to keep it from advancing centrifugally
    -removed the vacuum advance canister.

I have not phased the pick-up coil to the armature yet. My timing table ranges from 3 to 35 degrees. My plan is make sure the rotor is 20 degrees from the distributor cap when the armature lines up with the pick up coil. This would mean when the ecm is commanding 20 degrees of advance, the rotor would lined directly up with the distributor cap post. When the ECM is commanding 35 degrees of advance, the rotor would be 15 degrees past the distributor post.

Does this make sense, or am I missing something?

I converted my TFI hall effect dizzy to the reluctor and didn't need to mess with phasing. Once you set the base timing, it will be locked and won't need to be messed with.

If you use the duraspark large cap adapter it's not an issue. The reason for phasing is to have rotor 5-10 advance so it does not cross/miss fire at higher advance like 32, when there's only a short distance 45* between posts.

Look at a GM EFI small cap rotor and cap and you'll see a special design to prevent cross/miss fire.

After doing some research, I relized I missed something important. Ignition timing is measured by crank degrees. Crank degrees to rotor/cap degrees need to be divided by two (stupid mistake). If my timing ranges from 3 to 35 degrees (32 degree range), the range on the rotor/cap is only 16 degrees.
