so heres what the prob was . my batt had a crazy short cell that after a little drain time it would drop too 9 volts let it chill for 5 mins back to norm and would start?? replaced batt and used winflash with EAGLEMARKs cad bin ...took about 4 min said complete.. she starts right up ..runs good feels like its got more power ..so now the new pcm is screwed up bummer thats the one I tried too flash with the bad batt ..what is involved to repair the new pcm???as it wont read.. sorry for the delay on getting this done ...

to repair it, you would need to desolder the PROM that got a bad flash and do that manually in a PROM burner before resoldering it back in(or soldering in a socket and placing the PROM in it).

could do both. depending on how winflash operates, you may need to.

you have a burner that will work with the PROMs that these use?

in theory..... if you wrote a custom bootloader, you could even hotswap them and never need to use an external burner.

depends on how borked the flashing process went.

to expand a bit more on a custom bootloader, if you have a good PCM, remove PROMs, solder in socket, put PROM back in, get far enough into the flashing process to where the PROM is no longer needed to be present and the software basically halts its process, remove good PROM, stick in bad PROM, press a button to continue and then the bad one will be a good one with no burner required.

of course, the software would have to be setup to support this and AFAIK, none are.

i would use a MCUMall Willem unit(i think 3 or 4 series) over that. while it would probably work, i can't speak of quality or how well their software works. a burner that you can't figure out how to use is a pretty useless burner.

but yes, then you would just need the BINs, which if they haven't been posted before, are pretty easily split apart from the full 128KB BINs.

    I've got the genius g540 unit,works great.
I've only burned 3-4 chips with it though,so all I can say is it works and wasn't too hard to get going.

well that was easy. . used the tin foil method but also used high temp silicone a 1/4 bead around the chip put the foil on top. so the air couldn't go under the foil let sit overnight used the heat gun . about 30 secs later had the chip off ready for my socket and chips yum......
