I'm not sure how I would implements changing default colors so that it make sense in the UI tho. Also remember that colors are different per indicator type so you would need to do six indicator types which can be pretty annoying. I think the "Imports colors from another indicator" thing I have planned will be enough for now. Once you have a new indicator created or are editing one, you will just be a few clicks away from having the same colors as any other indicators you already have on your dashboard. I think it will be good enough for now and I will be able to move on to other stuff... at least for now :P

I've just added the import colors thingy as well now. I think that's it for the colors stuff for now. It will be ready to release soon. I just need to do a bit more testing but for now, I'm brain dead :D

just that import for another will work just fine. I find with the Tablet in my dash I use it more and more.. now I just need to hard wire the ALDL and have a switch for it and I am all good..

Hey just wanted to see how well the Red Devil River BT adapter is working for everyone. I want to swap out my LONG USB cable with either a XtremeALDL (or similar) or the BT. I plan to hard wire the ALDL side and have a switch to connect/disconnect it, this way if I want I can use a cable and scanner on the ALDL plug if needed..

I know there is a LED on the BT and I plan on burying it in the dash so curious if the BT would be a better way to go or if I should stick with a USB solution

For a permanent install that everything is in the dash, I don't see why anyone would want Bluetooth. USB will be a tad faster and probably more reliable. No reason for Bluetooth I think :)

If you had the tablet on the seat and / or walk around the car with it or something than Bluetooth would become a no brainer! In your situation, I would personally keep USB.

This is all depending on whether the device has a USB data socket in. Almost all android devices only have the micro USB in for data transfer to computer and uses it for charging. I also think even with like the faster baud rate of the 7730 You wont really notice a difference between USB or BT. Its one less wire to worry about and if the device is hard mounted then one would assume you are using the charge port anyways to power it.

As for reliability I could not believe it myself but BT seems to be more reliable. I am a hard wire type of guy. I ran cable all the way out to my shop because wifi was not reliable enough but the BT seems to be better in this application. Unfortunately a ton of the USB cables and hubs out there these days are so cheap that they have connectivity problems and you have to unplug and pug back in for it to re-recognize.

The only issue I see with BT is it does add additional drain on the battery but if the device is plugged in to a 10W charger then you dont have to worry about that.

Well I know Jeff has a nexus 7, so there is USB, that's also what he's using right now :) And there is a data rate difference between USB and Bluetooth on a 8192 baud ECU, I think it was around 1 read / second last time I checked. It's not huge but still something to be considered.

BT might be more reliable than WiFi in your case, but it won't be more reliable than USB. Also, to compare with WiFi, we would need an RS232 to WiFi adapter or something similar and connect that to the ECU. Comparing to your router for Internet is something quite a bit different.

So for his setup, I still think USB is better, but if you really wants Bluetooth, I would use the 1320 electronics adapter in that case. It won't have the little delay to detect baud rate.

I just looked into that. With the adapter the Nexus 7 can have a regular usb port. Did not know that!

My current setup with the 7747 ECM is 1 per second. I thought you said the 7730 was at 8192 which was like 8 per second. I am using the the 1320 electronics BT unit.

I understand the differences with the wifi I was just stating I am one who prefers a hardwire over wireless anything but in this case its easier.

Yes the 7747 I have is around 1 read / second and the 7730 around 8 reads / second. It might be a bit more than that with USB and a bit less with Bluetooth, I don't recall the exact numbers. I have both ECUs here and a 1320 eletronics adapter and a Red Devil River one too, and an ALDL to USB cable so I could eventually compare all setups for data rate difference.

Personally, I think it should go like it:
    - If you prefer wireless or if your device doesn't support USB, go Bluetooth.
    - Otherwise, go USB.

I'm not an expert but I would assume because of higher latency of Bluetooth. USB being a bit faster can also be observed with TunerPro as well as some other Android app I've developed for MegaSquirt and the official MegaSquirt tuning software as well.

it's possible, but considering both protocols are designed for data transmission throughputs around, what, 1000 times an 8192 baud serial stream? (just guessing), i fail to see how either couldn't maintain near-perfect serialization of requests and replies.

When we were looking for a android tablet that was one of the original things we were looking for was one with a conventional USB port. It was a thing being phased out as it doesn't jive with the whole "on the go" thing. We found a couple of no name tablets that had regular USB but they were a last year model and no more with USB. The problem is EVERYTHING is going wireless. I don't mind it but I sure would like the option of keeping it caveman and plugging a cable in.

Even if the 7730 via BT doesn't transmit at its full potential its not like I am relying on the tablet solely for gauges. even this 1 a second isnt that bad. Would it be nice to be genuine real time sure but its auxiliary data so it is what it is. still AWESOME!

    Version 0.48 is on Play:
    - Added possibility of editing indicator colors. Also moved the add / edit indicator dialog to an activity.
    - Added possibility of marking data log file while data logging

AutoProm APU1 mode ALDL support is next ? I think so!
