v6 memcal for tpi @730 ecm

I am re-pinning a 730 ecm out of a v6 mpfi camaro to work with tpi.
Do I have to buy a new memcal? or is there a jumper somewhere to change from v6-v8.
I know that I need to burn a new Prom; but do I need a new memcal also?

A new MEMCAL that matches your application is ideal, but there is a jumper that can be added to have the hardware side have the proper cylinder count set for an 8 cyl.

Ok, i found it.
BUT; i didn't find out about the ESC.
Do I have to do "something" and use a tbi esc module.
Or; will the esc still function on the 730 correctly as long as I use a 350 knock sensor.
All the information I found just says the esc will NOT function correctly if I jumper the memcal.
What do I have to do to make it function correctly?

Well, you're going to have tell us more about your swap to answer any other questions than what is in the first post. We can't read minds to know what it is you're doing exactly.

If you're converting a previously TBI (I.E. that used a '7747) vehicle to MPFI using the '7730, there are ways to retain the original ESC, and then the V6 MEMCAL with proper modifications should work just fine.

Oh; I'm sorry, you are correct.
i have an 89 RS tbi with a 350 swap. New esc module, injectors, knock sensor, and anlu chip @tbi ecm.(746)
I will be swapping/repinning a 730 ecm, hsr, 350.
I am just trying to keep from purchasing an expensive memcal.
I will be burning my own eprom, and I heard that it could be done with the v6 memcal that I already have.
If it is kinda jerry-rigged setup, i really dont want it,,just looking for info.
I want a fully funtional setup with ESC.

Depending on who you talk to, everthing modified is "jerry-rigged". ;)

Ok, so what you can do is remove the knock filter from the V6 MEMCAL, and place a 4.4K ohm resistor across two of the points, I don't recall which points off hand, but there is info on this site and TGO on how to do it. Then you feed the existing ESC into the ECM, IIRC through the knock sensor pin, voila a working external ESC.

The V8 jumper is installed in the same way, across two pins to get the hardware cylinder select correct for an 8 cylinder.

I've performed both modifications, on different vehicles, and they work.

I will do some more research on here and TGO.
I did find the harware cylinder select mod.
I dont wanna spend any EXTRA money if I can do it with the parts I already have.
I am good with electronics, just not so good with money.

I think I might have some info in one of my threads about the external ESC mod. IIRC the thread was "Getting another Delco project started" or something like that. I'm pretty sure I got away with a slightly different value than recommended and worked fine. The resistor is there to keep the ECM from throwing a code.

Earlier this summer I converted a 91 305 TBI / 5 speed to a 305 TPI system using a '7730 ECM. For this conversion, I installed a 91 305 TPI knock sensor and by-passed the TBI ESC. I was able to find a 305 TPI Memcal. See attached .zip for an Excel spreadsheet for more information and a "how to use" the 2K TBI VSS with a 7730 ECM.
