Want to convert a 1980 Corolla 1.8 from carb to TBI

I joined less than a week ago and I was reading the thread on a 22R Toyota truck and I was wondering if
theres anyone out there that can point me in the right direction with what I need and were to get it. I have a 1980 Toyota Corolla SR-5 5 speed manual with a 3TC 1.8 4 cylinder engine that I would love to convert into a TBI style efi. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best you can do is more research on what you need to interface with. A good source of parts is a wrecking yard, and many of the members here have some parts as well.

The biggest hurdle in swapping to EFI on any carburated only engine is getting a proper signal to the ignition control module. I would start your research in this area, dizzy and ICM interfacing to make it easy. The rest can be quite easy after that. Alternatively, you could go DIS using a crank mounted trigger wheel, but that might prove to be a little involved for a first timer.

I was thinking maybe a TBI Throttle from a Cavalier 4 cyl. Maybe grafting the dizzy from a 4 cyl. s10. Any ideas?

    Those are good ideas.

I would look closer at your dizzy though. If it's not a points dizzy, it may work to trigger a GM ICM. I did this with a Nissan dizzy when I first converted my car.

Not sure what a 1980 Toy has for distributor but in 85 the pickup works fine to trigger an externally mounted EST.

Or the build a distributor route:

Might be able to help, depends since I don't know much about toyota.I just did a 4AFE swap which is a 1.6l,I think the 1.8 is very similar/same.
The original engine had a crank sensor, and the replacement did not.
Luckily, the mounting boss was built into the oil pump cover.
I ended up swapping it over along with the crank timing gear which had the reluctor built in.
I have some pics, might have the cover in there.

Not sure if your's is same family of engines (I think it is). If so,than maybe find out what the stock signal resoution is and see if it corresponds with something you can use.
Than it could be as easy as swapping the oil pump for an easy crank sensor.

The application with the 1.6 and crank sensor was a 1997 Geo Prizm (same as Toyota Corrolla).
The donor engine without sensor/boss was a salvage engine labeled as a 97 Corrolla.
