    $OD or $OE in 16197427 ECM???

I will be putting EFI on another vehicle in a month or two.

Should I start with $OD or $OE in my 16197427 ECM? I'm starting from scratch and will be using a Chevy 350 TBI, sitting it on top of an AMC 360 (later a 401).

I will be using the ECM's timing control, but not the knock sensor or EGR. No computer controlled transmission in my future, either.

Is there any significant difference between the two? Is one more popular than the other?

    Thanks!

$0D is more popular, but $0E is just as capable. Real difference is $0D is for 4l60E trans and $0E is for 4l80E trans.

    Why no knock?

I'd say go with $0D. I started out with $0E and have since switched to $0D.

I have read a bunch of reports (and have been told by an AMC TBI outfitter) that the knock sensor causes a lot of headache with false knock. <shrug>

I made them work with 1227747? There's a procedure to make them work in noisier motors, first Memcal or ESC and knock sensor have to match, 5.7L for your 360, don't over torque the sensor, run stock mild spark table, look for false knock, if you find some pull knock sensor and give it 6 wraps of Teflon tape, still false, put it in a brass fitting or elbow to get away from headers, that is usually the last step but if it fails go to 7.4L knock sensor.

As long as you have no obvious noise it'll work, may not be as accurate as the motor it came off of? But it will stop detonation when it occurs.

Good to know.... Something to look into. I'll have to look at all my memcals and see what I have. I've never paid attention to them otherwise. LOL!

$0D seems be a bit more popular so advice for tuning any issues will be easier to come by.

I have also only been able to get the $0D E-fan control patch to work, which is something else to consider adding.

Another vote for $OD , not because there is not enough info out there for $OE as there surely is , but the dual fan code is only out there for $OD

I guess when the time comes for the '80E in my Blazer I will have to give the $OD patch a try to control it, as I want to keep my dual fans.
If there is no E-trans in your future , then $OD hands down
