I sure hope you meant you started with a 4.3L TBI bin? Even then there's hundreds of adjustmants needed to make it right for 350, async, sync, AE, PE etc... lots of work and even then I just got done reading a dissasembly of a CPI bin and all the diagnostics are differant...

I would start with a fresh 5.7 .bin set to manual.

Since GM had $0D 7.4L manual bins superceeded to 7.4L Auto bins, why not? It's what I have been doing with no ill effects, must be in the newer PCM code because it does not work well in old C3 ECMs.

Or you can use the only 5.7L Manual bin file we have? BJYN...

What we need are these 5.7L Manual bins.

Easy to make a 5.7 auto bin a 5.7 manual.. I think it's just one flag to uncheck, maybe 2 =). Definitely start with a common 350 bin.

When I started with my vortec motor, I think I was increasing the AE stuff by something like 200%-300% to get it driveable enough to do any useful tuning; 30% is like pissing into the wind (you can back it off later). In a perfect environment you should maybe disable AE to start, but some of us don't have airport runways at the end of our driveway...

Spark and VE are give and take until you get close, but I'll say that I had more trouble with not enough timing than too much, which totally goes against most of the advice you'll dig up. I had intake backfiring from too little advance regardless of fuel mixture.. my vortecs aren't happy if timing drops below 25* except high MAP low rpm. good luck =)

An auto bin wouldn't make it idle high?

Driving without AE sucks! Try to keep foot in one spot to record data, then another spot, then use Excel to filter out any AE frames.

Welcome to the wonderful world of tuning. Seeing how both the old 4.3 and new 5.7 .bin files are both $OD, you can use the compare function to see the differences in fuel and spark tables. I quite often copy / pastes fuel and spark tables from one .bin to next using the compare function.

I was just thinking about that copying and pasting

I'm still unsure on how to tune spark tables

You can read about it all day but eventually you gotta get your feet wet

Cal Data says this is manual, but manual is not checked and all the trans error codes are on, so I think Cal Data is wrong and it's an Auto.

The post I did for the timing tables used in a 1998 5.7 Vortec engine (Black Box Computer) Microsoft Excel format. http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...c+timing+table
