    7747 highway spark mode.....

I have succesfully installed highway spark mode on my Bin File. I can verify this using the difference tool and seeing the 55 bytes. However I do not understand how to edit and add these tables to my XDF file so that I can see and modify them. Is there an XDF primer for dummies?

Or perhaps an XDF file somewhere that I can download?

Man what files are you using?

Go to this thread and get $42-1227747-V5.1.xdf and $42-1227747-V5.0.adx All HWay Lean Cruise and lots of goodies...

When you open the XDF you will see the Paremeter Tree, Choose Catagories and you will see all the folders I set up for ease.

Before you go using HiWay Lean Cruise make sure your tune is in order! VE tables set and BLM near 128, no knock, at highway cruise speeds. Be conservative, double check, data log to verify. When you go into lean cruise you go Open Loop so BLM will not work anymore!

It works well if tune is in order, but it can't fix stupid!

Post some data logs if you want a double check?

Apparently I was using an antique because there sure are a lot more purty lights to look at now. :)

Mark, What causes highway spark mode to disable and go back into closed loop?

Well first to get into Highway spark it has to meet two qualifiers, time in seconds and MPH, then if the MAP qualiifer is met it goes lean cruise as well.

What disables highway spark/lean cruise is if MAP goes above the "HiWay - Max MAP" setting or if MPH goes under "HiWay - MPH Enable " setting. We are taking for granted that once the engine is warmed up on highway it won't go below coolant threashold of 167f...

So use the MAP setting, mine is set to 74.9 IIRC and works well. If I'm cruising down highway the truck can take most slight hills but if I hit a big one MAP goes above 74.9 and goes back Closed Loop!

Those files are set for data tracing as well.

There is also a spark advance and BPW hack so you can see spark advance BPW which is converted to Injector Duty Cycle and the MPG value and history table.

What motivated that last question was my thinking about towing. Do you think there is any special consideration to be paid to the Max MAP setting in order to insure safe operation when under load?
    Thanks

Yes! You have to determin what is to much load for OL... the 75MAP seems to be a good plce to start.

75 is a good place to start, if not end. i don't tow anything, but running i'm able to run reliably up to near 90kPa before i have highway fuel/spark kick out.

however, i'm probably also dealing with a much more aerodynamic and lighter vehicle though, with a smaller engine as well.
