    differences in ecm's

    I have a oem Ecm # 1227730 fits 86 chev=celebrity with 2.8 also a 1227727 fits 1988=olds cutlass 2.8 -question is -can these be subtituted for the other ?? Basically same engine.

    the 1227727 has 4 connectors with 22 pins each and is weatherproofed
    the 1227730 has 3 connectors, 2 with 32 pins, one with 24 pins, non weatherproofed

    internally, they're basically identical, so you can run a program from one on the other easily, you would just have to change the connectors on the harness.

    the 7730 was used in a LOT of applications, the 7727 was only used on W-bodies and corvettes.

    It would be mucho easyer to find a replacement 7730 than to re wire your harness to use a 7727, unless you require a weatherproof ecm.
