Help With 6.5 Turbo Diesel XDF DTC Table

Hello, everyone. I'm really hoping someone here can help me.

I'm working on an XDF project for my personal truck. It's a 1998 GMC with a L65 6.5 Detroit Diesel. It was built with an automatic trans, but is now manual swapped.

So to my question. I've managed to fing most of the important tables and scalers, using another XDF from the OBD1 trucks as a guide. But I can't figure out where the DTC table(s) is.

Attatched are my XDF, the other XDF I patterned off of, and BIN files pulled from SPS. The 9389101 is an automatic calibration, and the 9389102 is manual. I don't think the BINs are full size, but that shouldn't matter for me, as I plan to use GM DPS to flash the files after I edit them.

Any advice or help is deeply appreciated. I can't believe something I thought would be simple is making me lose brain cells.

I appreciate your efforts. The only problem is that my truck is OBD2, so it has 5 digit codes. I should have mentioned that earlier.

But I'll look throught the changes you made. They might still be helpful, as most of the 2 digit codes do translate to a 5 digit number.

OBD2 use PXXXX codes so 4 Digit in Hexadecimal and 5 in Decimal

If you have the OBD2 file i can hunt the dtc

For PXXXX search the common way is to look for the injector codes
201 - 20X depending of number of cylinders

I have been trying to search for dtcs in 16 bit hex with no luck. The way the table works in the obd1 file is totally new to me. I'm used to the newer ecms where each doc has a value between 00 and 06, or similar.

Also, the files in my first post are for my truck, which is obd2. I think they may be calibration only files. I tried playing with pcm hammer to try to get a read, but no luck there yet. I might revisit that after work.

Again, thanks for taking time to help. I really do appreciate it.

when you talk about obd2 we speak about PXXXX codes ?
do you have some from your car ?
the dtc switches are all in the xdf now

if you have a OBD1 DTC list i can update it so that you know the PXXXX code for each

Well, I tried PCM Hammer again, still no go. From what I'm reading, this is a "black box" PCM, before the days of the P01 etc. PCM Hammer only works on P01 and up.

If someone knows of a way to read these, I'm all ears. I did find a free flash program by Dimented24x7, but it doesn't work with a J2534 interface, which is what I'm trying to use.

Like I said in an earlier post, I think I can still use the files I have, if my theory holds. I would just like to read my ECM first, as there's currently a custom tune in it.

My understanding is that you cannot "read" the OBD2 6.5 calibration from the pcm without modifications inside the pcm. The pcm construction allows erase and write operations only.

Yeah, didn't have high hopes for getting a read. I was able to flash a file with GM DPS this evening, I've still got work to do, but the flash was successful.

I'm pumped that I even got a flash to go through. I'll keep everyone posted when I make more progress. (hopefully tommorrow)

Congratulations. That's definitely a step forward.

There are some threads that describe reading the chip by removing the stock part from the PCM. If your PCM looks like the OBDI versions, there is a prom inside that's soldered into a special socket. It is possible to remove the prom or to build an adapter for the socket.
