newbie needs help ..

tried the paper clip .. .no luck

You didn't get any flashes? If you turn key on what happenes to Check Engine Light? it should come on, fast blink and stay on till engine is started. If not, or flashing you won't get data.

it's a ground issue .... the guy that sold me the cable ran me through a couple of tests .. turns out I have a lousy ground at the ALDL .. that's why the paper clip didn't work .. so I grounded the black w/white stripe ..
car starts and runs but I still can't connect .. I think my ground still sucks ... but it RUNS !!!!
