    16197427 memcal compatibility

I have a 16197427 ECM from a 1994 Chevy S10 Blazer with the 4.3L CPI and automatic transmission. The BCC is BHRJ. I plan to use this ECM in a Chevy 292 TBI manual transmission (NV4500) conversion. I have a BJAY memcal and a BJLA memcal. Both are listed in the ECM BCC lookup spreadsheet as LB4 and manual transmission with a 16196395 ECM. Is the BJAY and BJLH compatible with the 16197427 ECM? I could not find a BCC for a 16197427 LB4 manual transmission application. I copied the information below from the ECM BCC lookup spreadsheet.

Prog ID BCC Size Year Release Date Eprom ECM Prom ID Scan ID Platform Engine Disp. Trans Trans Type Gear Ratio
    0D BJLA 64.00 KB 1994 34151 16198052 16196395 8053 8085 M1 LB4 4.3 MAN GU5
    BJAY 1994 34122 16196854 16196395 6856 6955 C1 LB4 4.3 MAN

you will need to replace your memcal or modify it to turn it to TBI mode. I would personally choose a different calibration to start with, BJFD 4.3L TBI/5 speed from a C/K truck would probably be a good choice. there may be physical differences to a CPI 7427, but I cannot confirm that as i've never seen it.

here's the documents from going from TBI mode to PFI (aka CPI). You should be able to follow in reverse to goto TBI mode. you may be better off finding a TBI 4.3L 7427 as it will have a knock filter that is closer to your displacement.

Also the 16197427 came in these trucks as well and it will run $31, $OD, $OE, $E6 mask.

It seems easier and smarter to purchase a TBI 16197427 than modify the CPI 16197427 that I have. Thanks for that information.

OK. I don't understand. The BCC lookup spreadsheet shows the BDXA for a 1994 S-series truck with 4.3L LB4 and manual transmission with a 16196395 ECM. It shows the BJFD for a 1994 C/K truck with 4.3L LB4 and manual transmission with a 16196395 ECM.

    If these will work in a 16197427, then can I use the memcals I have in a TBI 16197427? I have a BJLA from a 1994 4.3L LB4 manual transmission Astro/Safari with a 16196395 ECM and BJAY from a 1994 4.3L LB4 manual transmission C/K truck with a 16196395 ECM.

They are Central Port Injection aka CPI. they will not run right on TBI hence why Dave w and myself recommened other calibrations.

I may be mistaken, but the LB4 is TBI. L35 is the CPI engine. The memcals BJLA and BJAY that I have are from a 4.3L LB4 TBI engine. The 16197427 ECM I have is from a 4.3L L35 CPI engine. It has a BHRJ memcal.

I found the BCC information in this spreadsheet.

you would have unsolder the PROMs, copy them with something like moates BURN2 then check in the calibration. Unless you pulled them from the vehicle and saw with your own eyes what induction setup it had. Those BCC you posted are not in the gearhead-efi database.

The info I posted above should tell you by looking at the memcal if it's setup for TBI or CPI.

    edit
    BJLA 94 M-van 4.3CPI with 3.23 or 3.42 gears.bin
    BJLF 94 C-K Truck 5.7TBI 4l60e with 3.08 or 3.42 gears.bin

i assume you are looking for a starter calibration/bin... probably better off building one yourself starting with the bin dave/myself posted. if this is beyond your capability i'm sure dave can help you for a fee. The straight 6 TBI thing has been done before, but I don't believe i've seen anyone post their bin for it.

I like a plan that uses as much "Factory" as possible.

Typically "Factory" based Pieces and Parts projects have fewer headaches and better technical documentation . . . a proven path to success.

Based on the information at http://gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injecti...Information-0D . . . it appears the "Factory" used the 16197427 with a 4.3 Liter / Manual Transmission.

    Thanks for that information.

    Your assumption is correct.

Building one myself is beyond my current abilities, but I do not consider beyond my capabilities. Other than loading a tune into a ECM/PCM, I have zero experience with calibrating/tuning a PCM. I have to start somewhere. I think acquiring the correct hardware is the first step.

I agree with your statement about using factory pieces and parts. I'm 60 and have been wrenching, building and fabricating since I was a teenager. It took several years to learn this lesson, but I believe using factory parts will produce the most reliable and repairable project.
