My Ford F-47 TBI EFI build...some more questions for the brain trust

Decided to start a new thread as the old title was irrelevant as I now am using the 1227747 ECM and have all of the components, I am starting to pull out the unneeded wires and sensors and start building up the harness.

I know I read this last year when I first started this project but can't for the life of me find the info again. This is going on a 3.9L Ford flathead engine, 6.8:1 compression, 100HP stock except for the EFI system.

My question now is will the system run just fine without the ESC knock sensor and module which is normally found on the EGR bracket? I have the 5 pin ESC module but there is no place to mount the sensor on the block, and the flathead is not prone to pinging. I also think, correct me if I'm wrong, that the ECM still controls spark advance in conjunction with the 7 pin module in the distributor base, it just won't know to retard the timing if there is knock as there will be no knock sensor.

Do I need to tie the B7 knock signal wire hi/low, or just leave it disconnected, or connect the ESC but have no actual sensor?

    Thanks for the help!

    Cheers

My one has no knock sensor. That stuff was removed from the bin. Your right Flatheads can live with out this.
This will raise some eyebrows. The limp home was removed also along with the board off the memcall.
There is no check sum either, so very little error reporting.

Originally there was no CEL light or data stream wires I have added this and can now look at the data stream.
There was no VSS either. Its been recommended to add this so I have put this wire in and have obtained a speed sensor.

Ill pm you later with other stuff.

    Thank you sir, appreciate it.

You read my mind, I was also going to ask about the VSS. I just read that it tells the ECM that you are moving and to leave idle mode. I looked at the diagrams and just noticed a VSS buffer..researching that now. I have a Ford Explorer rear end installed that has a speed/ABS sensor on the ring gear, not sure what its' output is yet. There is also a VSS on the tailshaft housing of the AOD, as well as a drive gear which will be my speedo drive.

Going to dive into some BIN files soon to start playing with programming.

Look forward to hearing more, thanks!

    cheers

Just found this article right here on Gearhead-efi. Working my way thru 18 pages...

Think I will need to come up with a VSS for my conversion to work properly.

    cheers

i believe you need a 2000 PPM signal for VSS input on the 747. You can get an inline unit that hooks up to your speedometer cable. This is probably the easiest. OEM got this signal a few different ways over the years, optical sensor on the back of speedo with a "VSS buffer" (usually a small green plastic box), and in later years a 40 tooth reluctor wheel that would be fed into a DRAC/VSSB. Both systems can take the signal and make 2000 PPM (ecu), 4000 ppm (cruise control), etc. you should not have to worry about these though.

EDIT: i am in the lower mainland btw, have a chip burner and emulator.

Good to meet another BC boy, thanks for the info. I have a really nice burner from the 90's, EPROM eraser, and just found out about the emulator...I may have to buy one, would make tuning so much easier.

    Cheers

PS I have one of those inline speedo cable VSS things, it's a Ford product but probably works the same, it's 2 wires. I'll have to check it out, would sure be nice if it could drive the ECM directly.
