Moates Flash & Burn question (chip not blank)

I understand that I should be asking this at the Moates site..figure wouldn't hurt to ask here. Been a long time since I worked with Moates and TunerPro.

If I drop in a new chip (27SF512) into the Flash Burn, load a bin and verify the bin load....checks out!

But ...When I hit the "erase" button with the same chip...the message indicates "erase succeeded" BUT when I "check for blank" it indicates chip is not blank and I can't get a successful bin load after that.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Is the chip loaded in the burner correctly? Rows of pin furthest away from the zif handle needs to be occupied. btdt

10-4.....drop in a new chip, load the modified test bin from TunerPro, loads properly, is buffer verified, can be read and sent back to TunerPro. Then when I try to erase and install the final bin...says the chip is erased..but not empty (and can't be used again).

    There are several SST27SF512 "clones".

Often SST27SF512 "clones" won't work with the Flash & Burn.

I'll see if I have other chips to try.

    Call Moates Tech Support!
Do not remember the Tech guys name, but he remoted into my laptop and fixed the issue in about 2 minutes.
Had something to do with a firmware update that did not go with the burner that I had just received.
Save your time and frustration, just call Tech Support.

Dave...Bad Chips!...these were "new" chips I bought back in 2012 when I joined this forum. I have (2) strips of 27SF512 proms...one that I marked "Chinese" and the other without marking to indicate US based. The US chips work fine...the proms marked Chinese are the ones not working.

Can you suggest a source for quality proms?

Even tried them in my MiniPro...

    Thanks
    Ed

Moates has a page about "Fake Chips": http://support.moates.net/fake-27sf512-chips/

Moates sells 27SF512 chip that work with the Burn 2: http://www.moates.net/c2-sst-27sf512....html?cPath=26

Cloned chips work well, but the Burn 2 is not able to program the clones (or fakes as Moates calls them). Many of the chips used in car electronics and car accessories are "clones".

    I use a BX32P for programming chips. https://www.newark.com/batronix/bx32...-ii/dp/53M6869

Cheap chips or clones require expensive programmers.

The BX32P is MASSIVE overkill for a single project.

FYI I also have a MiniPro TL866CS programmer (which I like & comes with many adapters)...upgraded the drivers for Windows 10. Same result - indicates chip is erased...but then shows that it's not blank.

Have you called and talked with Moates tech support??
Had the same exact problem, and they fixed it in a few minutes. Since he was remoted into my laptop, I did not see everything he did, but it had something to do with the version of firmware in my tool.
