Thanks again for the input. I think I have seen a few places which suggest that the module illuminates the check engine lamp.
Will know for sure when I finish my test rig and check what the ECM...
@1project2many
Thanks - that's really helpful. My Firebird manual says the same - so it seems that the module causes the ECM to do more than just switch on the Check Engine lamp, but actually...
Hey thanks for that ...
At least now I know that it is some kind of timer, I get a few more results from Google searching for "E Cell Timer"
If I searched "E Cell Program Modifier", I just got...
Just getting to know all the sensors and actuators connected to the ECM on my '83 Trans-Am (LU5 crossfire) and I find a small module which the Service Manual identifies as "E-Cell Program Modifier". ...
I'm not convinced that it is a 6802 either :(
Looking at the PCB, pin #5 is connected to pin #1 (which is ground).
However, pin #5 is an output ('VMA') according to the 6802 datasheet.
So unless...

pinout that I found for 68HC09 seems significantly different from that shown for 16021633 here:

closest match that I have seen so far from...
Many thanks for that ... are you saying that the micro is equivalent to a 6805 ? Can't actually find a pinout for that part number in this document though.

Thanks, 1project2many - that is a great help. I had been looking at the pinout for the 16021633 IC, which I found here:
https://pcmhacking.net/ludis/c3pinouts.html#16021633
and concluded that it...
On it ...
but first will remove some of the odd "gunk" that appears to be spread around a couple of the ICs. There are actually two back-to-back boards in this unit. One has the connectors and...
Thanks for the advice - it is much appreciated.
However, my goal is really to understand the ECM in my car down to the level of the firmware, rather than to tune or tweak it. So I guess I am...
Thanks, guys ...
@stew86MCSS396 ...
Does the "program ID" in this link ($0F) refer to the PROM mask ID ?
@1project2many ...
forgive my ignorance, but what is the "7747" and "7427" that you...
Hi, Guys -
Just starting to learn about the fascinating world of GM ECMs ...
Have a 1983 Trans-Am with the 305 Crossfire engine.
ECM ID number is 1226026 and PROM has the following markings on...
Thanks for completing my registration. Looking forward to learning and sharing knowledge.
