I'm thinking about trying to fuel inject(multi port) my dad's 1972 ford tractor, it's a 3 cylinder OHV engine displacing about 160 cubic inches, and makes about 36 hp. do I have any real options here? do they make injectors small enough for that???

with a desire for multiport.... you may have a few options, especially if you were to run the injectors in a single-fire mode. you'll be limited to a 50% duty cycle, but you'll be able to run injectors twice as large as you would be able to otherwise. that puts you in the 24HP/cylinder range, which is pretty close to the early LN2/LE4 engines(110HP from 4 cylinders). from a V6 application, you would be looking at ~144HP, there are a couple 60V6 and 3.8/3800 options to choose from in that area. a V8 would be ~192HP, which some of the early TPI 5.0s were in range of. the 4.3 version of the LT1(L99) was rated for 200HP. multi-port Cadillac 4.5 and 4.9 engines were right around 200HP.
so, you've got a few pretty common options to choose from for injectors. if you wanted to run a DIS ignition on it, that could probably be done as well, could use a 60V6 ICM and instead of having the dual-coil packs, you would run 3 COP/CNP coils.
by the way, i love oddball projects.
You can also play with fuel pressure to adjust for injectors in this case.
I'd use a Megasquirt for this, it's more adaptable to really oddball projects like this than a Delco, not saying the Delco can't do it, it can, but you'd probably have to go with a Geo Metro/Chevy Sprint ECM from the 3 cyl version in order to get many of the cyl count settings and variables that rely on that cyl count to act correctly.
The MS can natively be set for 3 cyl and read all sorts of trigger wheel types easily.
The earlier ecm's with an adjustable constant for the number of cylinders can correctly configured to run 3 cylinder (or five cylinder) engines.
I was wondering if megasquirt would be the route to take. it's definitely cheap. the engine only revs to about 3000 RPM, anyone know if there is an easy way to increase resolution by minimizing the usable range?
DIS/Coil per cylinder would be cool, but total overkill, I was thinking I would update it to a ECM controlled dizzy though.
I dunno... what's the cost for a MS vs $30 junkyard ecm??

7730, 7749, 7727 are all good examples. Use $8D. The older 165 with $32 will also work which would give you MAF.

injection components for very similar displament motorcycles exist.
you could go port injected and ITB if you harvest parts from a wrecked 600cc class japanese bike, then use a megasquirt.
these things are designed to clamp to rubber manifolds which makes them very flexible for attachment to custom intake manifolds
there are even triples with ITB like triumphs and newer yamahas
just throwing it out there.
With MS you can adjust the tables to any RPM range to want to increase or decrease resolution, something I wish could easily be done with a GM ECM. If I'm correct about table switching even more resolution could be added with the MS by using multiple tables to further increase resolution, but I have not 100% verified this yet.Quote:

I've used Delco ECMs for years, but have recently got more hands on with MS and with some of the newer firmwares and features added with the Extra code it's making it hard to not use it, or at the very least test it and see just what can be done with it.
