generally just not having an o2 sensor hooked up and disabling any o2 related error codes works too.
the o2 has a readiness flag and without an o2 plugged in, it will probably never get set.
But you can use the correction data (BLM values) and an excel file to tune your engine. The base formula is simple: VE Table entry * (BLM Value/128). There are some caveats like VE tables being combined, but I am sure there's a guide somewhere in the GM tuning section.
there's nothing wrong with open loop if emissions aren't a concern and you spend the time to get it right. stoich isn't always the best mixture for every operating condition.
I set closed loop temp to 151 and open idle threshold to 151. My drivability in open loop is noticeably better than closed. The only thing is your ve tables can't be sloppy.
I started tuning in OL about 6 months ago and loved it so much I stayed there. It took a while to test over and over to get it best that I could. The throttle response is on point. It's not my daily but I do drive it with no issues. I did switch back to CL SD and MAF 2-3 weeks ago but it just didn't seem to have the power it has in OL. I do have other issues effecting my CL operation but again OL is so nice why not leave it.
