I just had installed a 4L 60 E in my 1995 Pontiac Firebird and the builder said the transmission had been gone through but now I get a code 83. I’m thinking this transmission is a 94 or earlier because I Ohm the wires out and I don’t see the torque converter PWM solenoid. It runs good and shifts fine but it sets the 83 code. My question is will this mess up the transmission if I keep driving it like this? Next weekend I’m going to pull the pan and find out but until then I was just wondering if it’s safe to drive?

If you're getting code 83, your 4L60E is NOT pulsewidth-modulating the TCC.
That's not a bad thing. Were I you, I'd do the following to my .bin:
*DISable 'TCC Control Feedback Diagnostic Error 83'
Set 'TCC Apply Rate vs Gear vs %TPS' = 124.5
Set 'TCC Release Rate vs Gear vs %TPS' = 124.5
Set 'TCC Apply Operating Point vs %TPS vs Gear' = 99.6
Set 'TCC Release Operating Point vs %TPS vs Gear' = 0.0

Those are '94 values, by the way. Use those & you'll never worry about any code 83 complications ever again.

Thank you I will try that. So do I set all TCC apply rate vs gear vs % TPS to 124.5 and so on with the rest of them?

Never mind I’ve got it. Thank you.

I want to thank you for your support. I’ve been driving the car for a week and no codes. With every thing set on stock settings except for shift point it will break the tires lose when she hits second. I can finally see how well my 383 will run. I need to check through this form and see the best way to set up accel 36 lbs injectors because it’s rich on bottom and lean on top. I have tuner pro and tuner cat and I changed the injector flow rate and voltage offset that came with the injectors. I also want to learn how to use the E-Side diagnostic patch.

Little late, but using a 94 bin would have also fixed it.
