Since I've got a Knock Sensor History table in my 1227747_Super_$42.adx people have been working on I get some strange numbers...

Like I will get 4 in all sorts of rpm vs map spaces. Then clear the form and get 30 in all differant areas? Running high test and I took 5 degrees out of everything and filled all the boxs with 0s

Only place they vary is in the 100 MAP column where they will read 7 12 14 8 at differant RPMs

Does anyone know more on how to interpute these numbers?

Mark,

I get a 1 to start, then 2, then 3 , then four.......so on so forth for each box, when a knock is detected.
Sounds like there is something wrong with the $42.ADX file you are using.

Now that I think of it I never heard a ping, let alone knock?

Do you guys hear knocks or pings when the recording data says it's happeneing?

if you can HEAR knock, then it is SEVERE.

i don't use the history tables for knock stuff, since it's easy enough to play back a log and stop when a knock count goes up, see where in the table is happens, make a note of it and move on.

So if I'm looking at say the monitors during playback the knock count just keeps rising? Say I had 122 knock count in the monitor it would only register one more? then one more? then one more? Or maybe the line in the monitor was longer and the knock count goes up 1234567 more?

and now i'm confused.

the knock counter shows the total number of knocks since the engine has been running, whenever the counter goes up, knock happened sometime between the sample before the counter went up, and the sample that shows the counter going up. once it hits 255, it rolls over since it's only stored as an 8 bit value (or at least displayed as such, some masks store as 16 bit, but only show the LSB in the stream).

Many of the Ford systems did not use knock sensors or they were kinda quirky and the guys would disable them - and the newer motors knock very quietly :) so they would tune wearing a stethoscope hooked to a hose that was run up to the intake valley of the engine so they could hear the knock
kinda crude but you do what you gotta do ...
