Hi everyone,

My brother and I are working on modifying his 1973 oldsmobile 350 into an EFI application.... We're using an intake manifold from a late 1970's Cadillac and a ECM from a 1991 Camaro/Firebird 5.0 or 5.7 engine. We're working on finishing up the final wiring, but we have managed to get it to fire on run - now I'm charged with "tuning" the bin so dial it in for the oldsmobile nuances. Looking forward to sharing how this goes and reading the knowledge that lives in this forum.

As I side note, I have a 1978 Monte Carlo that I retrofitted with an Edelbrock ProFlo - this was my first dip into the EFI world so happy to offer any advice on that subject as well. Looking forward on learning more about tuning that one as well.

Best regards, Marc.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome...

The ECM is the 1227730... The current chip is the ARZU, we managed to bypass the VATS for the initial run using a handy Programmable Square Wave Function Generator which took the current and modified to 30 hz and a 50% duty cycle prior to it entering the ECM... Now I'm on to programming a new chip with the VATS deleted and then swapping out the Memcal with another memcal containing the updated chip... Was looking to get the Moates adapter but shipping to Canada is expensive so may have to make my own with a ZIF adapter soldered into my spare memcal (just trying to find one that I can fit into the open pins without it hanging off the end....

I've had mixed results soldering chips or ZIF sockets to the Memcal. I've had ZERO issues using the Moates.net G1 Adapter: https://www.moates.net/g1-memory-adapter-tpi-etc-p-32.html http://support.moates.net/g1/

Thanks! I decided to buy the adapter - it should be here in a week or so.... I will check out the forum link as well - thanks for pointing me in the right direction....

Quick update. The adapter arrived. I've managed to program the bin onto the chip, got it into the adapter and memcal and successfully started the car. Idle seems to be a bit high, so now on to the journey of tweaking the bin to get things right. I appreciate the initial help from you guys - if there are specific sections that will help in these forums please let me know so I can get my research going in the right areas....

By the way, for programming the chip I used a TL866 II Plus... A bit cheaper than the one that Moates sells and programs a wider range of chips - lets see how it holds up...

Marc...
