Hey guys, I need to start off by saying that “new to this” is an understatement. I’ve never done any tuning before and just wrapped up a 383 build (also a 1st) on my 95 Trans Am. Sent the PCM to StrongspeedWorks, downloaded EEHACK & FLASHHACK to an old laptop where both worked fine the first few times I hooked it up (before I got everything sorted out on the engine) tried opening it a couple weeks ago and the EEhack window only partially (the top inch with buttons) after about 4 seconds it says “not responding then completely closes.
I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled it as well as everything I can find related only to have the same result.
It seems really odd that it worked before and now don’t. I think it’s windows 10.
I should also mention that it’s a borrowed laptop cause I don’t own anything windows.
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Have looked at the gearhead-efi $EE link? http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/showthread.php?335-16188051-and-16181333-PCM-Information-EE-EEB

Not until now, I’ll have to give it a more thorough read after work but from what I saw it looks like a lot of BIN info and compatibility with tunerpro. Not sure that’s gonna take me on the path I need.
Thanks tho Dave

you might just want to delete everything related to eehack and install the latest version. usually it freezes when something bad has happened to its definition file, and eehack does not do a bunch of error checking when it loads that file so it can easily crash

Thanks, tho I feel like I tried that (Tuesday)... I’ll try again.

TunerPro is a tool that can edit the parameters in a .bin file. For example TunerPro can be used to change the displacement parameter from a 5.7 liter to a 383.

Flashhack is a free tool to read a .bin from the computer or write a .bin file into the computer. http://fbodytech.com/flashhack/

Trimalyzer is a "Tuning Tool": http://fbodytech.com/trimalyzer/

Years ago gearhead-efi members, including me, had to pay to play with a LT1 using TunerCats: http://www.tunercat.com/cables/lt1kit.html

Stevo is my LT1 hero:jfj:

I finally resolved it... an update to the laptop screwed up compatibility. After several attempts to delete and re-download I finally dug into the laptop and had to restore it to an older date. I never thought I’d need to be a windows tech to build my car, looks like I gotta brush up my IT skills and relearn this platform

I believe I'm suffering the similar issues using a windows 10 laptop. This laptop is giving me trouble anyway, and EEHack will not open after the zip files have been extracted

Can anyone confirm if the EEHack will run on a new/newer laptop (one year or less)?
I may just replace this

EDIT: I was able to right click the EEhack in the folder and test for compatibility, then ran it on Windows 8 settings

eehack is built against QT's open source libraries and does not use any windows programming interfaces directly.

this makes it automatically compatible with any version of windows that QT (or rather the version of QT that i built that EEhack release with) supports. currently this is any windows computer running windows 7, 8, or 10

one major reason i use QT to build my software is it will run on anything without me doing extra work

usually if it fails to launch it's a problem with the definition file (which it just crashes if something bad happens), crappy antivirus software (there is ZERO need to have antivirus software with windows 10, it has built in virus protection that's enabled by default) or some other core problem.

for fun try making a new windows 'user', log in as that user and install it there

Yes, this laptop has a core problem! Thank you for the response and clarification. I’m sure someone will happen upon this thread again and know to look at the laptop and not the eehack

Good news is that it launched and hooked up to the car perfect once my side of stuff finally worked. Thanks Steve!
