I replaced my tbi engine in my 62 suburban with a 99 Vortec 5.7. I swapped out the black box for a 0411 pcm and wired it for an 02 van. I removed vats on the pcm. It hits on a couple cylinders but won’t start and run. Crank re-learn? The computer is reading rpm according to live data on handheld scanner.
Any thoughts?

thanks,
Rob :mad1:

Ensure distributor is timed properly, cam/crank correlation cant be relearned unless its running.

Have you checked fuel pressure? Vortec / L99 injectors need 50 psi to open. Be sure to check pressure while cranking, too.

Fuel pressure is good and dizzy hasn’t moved.

Fuel, Air, Spark, and about 400 RPM's from Starter will start an engine.

Will the engine start with Starting Fluid?

Is there 12 volts going to CKP and CMP? (key on / engine off)

Maybe either the CKP or CMP has failed, if 12 volts is confirmed.

Maybe the gap between the CKP sensor and 4x Trigger Wheel is excessive?

If nothing is wrong with the engine, then the next logical suspect part is the computer and / or Flash.

I doubt there is harness wiring problem, it's 100% factory? Or is the harness 100% factory '0411 rewired? Hmmm??

It’s a train wreck. 99 harness that I’m trying to repin to a 411 pcm. I tried helping it with starting fluid to see if maybe the injectors are not working but I need some more hands. It’s getting closer every time I mess with it but I think I just need to track down some more wires.

I'll need to double check, but there is a good chance I have good used stand-alone '0411 / L31 harness. Send me Private Message (PM) if you think I should start searching for the harness.

I’ve all ready started to thin down the harness. I’ll check some grounds and connections today.

Update! It runs! Still a little rough but it runs. Had a couple injector pin outs backwards and a couple other computer wires wrong. At first it still showed no signs of improvement so I hosed it with starting fluid and now it will start and run.??
Thanks for the help and all the info here.

Got any pictures?

I have to tidy up the wiring and fab up an exhaust, I need to remove the rear o2s from the computer and a handful of other dtcs because it’s looking for transmission feedback and I have a manual. I’ll try the inline vss I have and see if it works or not. Not sure if it even needs it. Lots to do but making progress. I’ll try to post some picks of my hackery.
