I'm using an 0411 as a trans controller for a 95 6.5 diesel that had the electronic injector pump swapped to manual many years ago. So far many of the engine inputs such as CKP, MAP, IAT, CTS etc are functioning properly. What I'm looking for is an unused 12v output that can be used to turn on the glow plug relay in a CTS vs on-time type table. I'm using HPTuners and an 02 Express van 5.7L 4L80e base file.

Anyone? No one?

Just off the top of my head, could you use the fan control to ground the relay? Activating a relay doesn't care if it's ground or 12v if wired accordingly.

I've looked at fan control but I couldn't come up with any solution. Maybe I cant see the forest for the trees?

Thought about fuel pump output control too, but there aren't any tables in HP for it.

It may not be possible with out changing code, and that's way beyond my limits.

Thought AIR pump stuff, but again no tables in HP.

I see what you're saying about the relay too, simple wire swap and I could use a ground control. Original PCM just output 12v control.

You can post your hpt file and I'll have a look through it and see if I can find something you can use for the glow plug relay. I'm sure a simple 555 timer circuit could be built pretty easy but wouldn't have CTS control. I doubt the engine would care if the glow plugs were active upon key-on even if the engine was up to temp, not sure though.

Don't laugh too hard at my diesel VE table lol

Hello Brian,
That is a Hpt custom os so I can't help much but I did notice you might be able to use your shift light parameters for temp, max on time and a few other things. I would imagine that will be a ground pin so keep that in mind. Let us know how it goes

Shift light output won't work. Uses the same pin (47) as 2-3 shift solenoid and I'm running 4L80e. What is it about the COS that is a problem? Using 2bar for proper MAP scaling for trans pressure control (no MAF).

Hi Brian,
I'll have a deeper look at the COS, it looked simple at a glance.

Hi Brian,
I'll have a deeper look at the COS, it looked simple at a glance.

Looked promising also until I researched the pin out and ran into that issue.
Still looking at fan control also.
Sure wish there were tables for the AIR pump.

Hi Brian,
Your Hpt COS is based on 12212156 OS used in a 12200411 PCM. It looks like you should be able to use one of the fan control circuits. Usually we turn a fan on at a set temp, then turn off when it goes to a lower set temp, plus it might need a rpm reference signal to activate. I'm not sure what happens when those values are opposite of normal. The 12212156 OS does have EGR as well as AIR pump settings, however from memory it seems like the '0411(red/blue) doesn't have those driver chips on the main board that the earlier 9354896(red/blue) has. I could be wrong, it's been a while since I was looking at the differences. Good Luck

p.s. I built an encoded 24x/1x signal generator for RPM as well as everything else to be able to run the PCM on the bench with LED's and such. However, the suck is, I have no spare time. You can build all the stuff you need for testing but it can be daunting :(

I'm going to wire the fan output to a simple bulb and experiment with that for a bit. I'm using a CPI 5.7 calibration which uses 4x tone wheel which the 6.5 diesel just so happens to have same 4x wheel. Currently just have the glow plugs wired to a momentary switch. Glow control isn't a deal breaker as the main goal was trans control and that is working flawlessly. Thank for your help.
