Exhaust pipe joint?

On my YJ wrangler, I am getting ready to change the stock front pipe to the later TJ style that loops around the front of the oil pan sump, instead of going under the belhousing hanging on everything you drive over. I scored a new un used aftermarket mandrel bent one on craigslist for dirt :jfj:
But since it loops around the oil pan, I now wont be able to remove it unless I also remove the pipe. So I was looking for some type of a "joint" or flange I could weld onto the pipe that I could unbolt and be able to remove the whole front pipe if needed. So does anyone know of any such thing? I tried to google it, but came up empty handed. I had thought about having a local machine shop cut out two square steel plates like 1/2 or so thick each and have the mating surfaces true and flat, and add a bolt at each corner and cut out the center to match the pipe, then weld that to the pipe. Then I could unbolt it if/when needed. But before I went that route, I figured I would see if there was any such thing already pre made. Pipe is 2.5in exhaust pipe.
I was also thinking about ading one of those short flex peices to soak up some of the engine movement, kinda looks like a large steel braded hose. Anyone ever used one? Good or bad?

Yes, that pretty much exactly what I am looking for!
Now why something like that didnt come up when I googled it, I dont know. Mabey I just wasnt searching the right terms.

PJG, what would you find something like that on? I may look next time I go to the junkyard, but, I might also just buy the above ones, hard to beat that price and I dont have to cut them off a junkyard car....lol

I really think one of the reasons so many 4.0 jeeps have cracked manifolds is because of the lack of flex or "give" in the exhaust system. Just wonder if these things hold up without leaking?

Just wonder if these things hold up without leaking?None of your links worked but if your talking about the stainless braided looked flex joint then yes they do work well and last.

There's also new upgraded 4.0L Jeep exhaust manifolds that have a flex connection in them several designs like this.

Just tried and the links worked fine for me. If they still dont work, just pull up summit racing and type in the part numbers that at the end of the above links.
I have seen those upgraded manifolds for years, just waiting on mine to crack again. I had a guy weld my stock one up right after I got this jeep when I was still in high school. He welded on a little renforcement strip when he welded up the crack. So far 11 years and counting, still has not cracked again.

there are a few makes of vehicles that have couplers between the cat and the Y pipe. battery powered sawzall works great. I have evolved some and use the exhaust pipe machine at the shop I work PT at to make my own now. a set of collector flanges and some creativity with the pipe flaring attachment...
