Looking to build a circuit to create a cam signal using the crankshaft signal for doing some bench testing of an ECM. I made a crankshaft signal for my bench test rig using a 555 timer chip. Now I am wanting to take the crank signal and create a camshaft signal. It looks like using a synchronous counter chip should work. I did some internet research, but unfortunately did not find too many example circuits to do exactly what I wanted.

I am looking for any feedback about this design ... or if it will even work. I was also somewhat confused on which exact chip to use, so if I should use a better one, please let me know.

The crank rotation is 2x to 1x cam rotation.

Maybe another way to look at crank rotation vs. cam rotation is:
A Chevy L31 Vortec has a 4x crank trigger wheel and a 1x cam trigger wheel. The Chevy L31 Vortec PCM will see 8 crank sensor pulses (2 rotations multiplied by 4 tooth trigger wheel) for 1x cam sensor pulses.

Maybe the 555 timer has a configuration for 1x output after a 2x input?
