I am trying to help my dad get his 88 c3500 conversion running right. Basically we removed a carbed 454, and installed 93 TBI 454/4l80e. I wired engine/trans harness connector pins according to 1993 alldata diagram. Engine starts and runs really good, but the trans is not shifting at all. Keep getting code 24 for no vss signal. I have checked wiring from vss sensor all the way to drac module-all good-have power/ground to drac. back probed vss wires at drac, and have good ac voltage(0-7v). Back probed speed signal wire to ecu, and seem to be getting good signal there. The 4l80e is believed to be a 94up transmission. Is it possible to control newer 4l80e with 7060 ecu? Do I need to switch to 94-95 ecu? Can I use BANF memcal in 94-95 ecu? Sorry if this has been covered before, I searched for hours and found nothing.

I am not familiar with the 7060 ECU, but I know the 4L80E uses a transmission mounted input speed sensor and maybe output speed sensor. If it is the 7060 ECU, try referencing these Diagrams from this forum for wiring VSS wiring.

Thanks for the reply. I have already wired the computer according to this diagram. I think my problem is that the ecu is for older 91/92 4l80e. I have a 95 4l80e and the force motor is controlled differently. I need to know how to go about using a 94/95 ecu, and if I can use the memcal from the 1993 ecu in the 1995 ecu???

It's easy to swap to the later 1995 ecm as i did this recently by just repinning what i needed. You will need either #0E or #31 memcal for the 16197427, 16168625, 16196395, or the like PCM's.

Forgive my ignorance, but i'm new to the game. what is #0e/#31 memcal?

c5wagner,
thank you very much for your help. I think I understand what I have to do to get my Dad's truck running now!
Off to the wrecking ard to find correct ecm.....

I think you would be wise to try to get 94/95 pcm that is closest to what ever vehicle the 95 4l80e came from. That way the transmission will be happier and the motor is the easy part of the swap. You can tune on the motor side and if you are off it runs crappy, if things are off on the trans side you could ruin the trans.

Last question....does the ecm determine trans or memcal?

The computer is pcm, power control module ( I think I used the right wording ) and it controls both the engine and the trans. The chip needs to be correct for both the engine and the trans. When people burn a new chip they are mostly working with the eng side although some of the deeper guys do work with trans. When you go looking for new pcm make sure to get the mating harness ends ( red, blue ) as they are different than what you have with your 7060. If it seems like a lot of work changing to 7427 it is well worth it in the long run.
