View Full Version : Can I do this with tuner pro?

I have a LM7 swapped 97 S10. The pcm (blue/green) was bench tuned by LSX Power Tuning to get things to work properly with the DBW, A/C, and fans. Also a pretty nice performance calibration was done at the same time. He used HP Tuners to do it. Now the tune is pretty close, but there are some adjustments i would like to make to the spark advance and possibly fueling to eliminate a WOT pinging at 4K+ RPM. My question is: Can I read a .bin using PCM Hammer of my current setup, make my changes as desired, and then write that to another PCM (so as to preserve the one I have in case of problems)? Or am I just stuck waiting until I free up the cash to buy HP Tuners?

I have wondered this in the past with my HP Tunered operating system. And the answer was "No". Apparently, there are differences in how HP Tuner does things that would make any XDF file that you might use in Tuner Pro useless.

It is a good idea that you could use Hammer or LS Droid to copy your tune and then write it to a spare PCM. But make changes to a custom OS such as HP Tuners . . . I don't think so. However, let's see what others here say because I'm still a lightweight rookie in all of this.

Thanks for the reply. Not what i was hoping for, though... From my understanding I believe HPT only really uses a custom OS if you switch to a speed density setup or real time tuning. I suppose in that case it would be a sure "no". They are patched for the VATS delete, so that could also be a problem. My tune is actually an "off the shelf" tune for a '05 Express 2500 with some tweaks to the calibration. This is how I was able to get DBW, electric fans, and still have analog A/C. I do remember Lawrence telling me that the reason for that is there are restrictions on what he could really do (looking at you, manual transmission) because of the operating system number on my PCM. Maybe it's not a custom OS? Maybe I'll just have to grab one, make a bench harness, and create a new paper weight?

It shouldn't have a COS. That is $100 more. The problem is I have not seen a definition file for a Blue/Green 1 meg for TunerPro. VATS disable is a switch in the factory coding.

2500 Vans did not have 5.3s.

Correct. They did not have 5.3s. My scan tool auto id's it as a LQ4. Runs good though. All 2003+ PCMs are 1mb (except maybe the vette?) And there are several .bin and XDF files on this forum for various ones.

HP Tuners initially charged extra credits (money) for the P01 / P59 COS upgrade, however since around June of 2014, the COS upgrade became free of charge.

A complete XDF (for TunerPro) for the 1Mb P59 PCM may be found here:

http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/showthread.php?7676-Free-LS1-Tuning-Software-(all-you-need-is-TunerPro)&p=73584&viewfull=1#post73584

It is for 2004 P59 OS12587603 only.

Until you read the calibration that is in the PCM with tuning software, you will have no idea what Operating System (OS) is actually in use.
So if i have that os, it might be possible? I will look this afternoon and see what i have. Thank you for the info and link!
