Hello to all:
I can't believe I came across this GOLDMINE of information and expertise !!!!
I am just starting to restore my '86 Corvette (been stored in barn for last 10 years, yes mice did a job on it)
I am having to rework some of the wiring and thought it would be a good time to delve into the EFI system and see if a later model ECM could be used, something to play with. Looking forward to spending many hours here. Hopefully I'll learn enough to minimize the number of "bricks" I create out of good ECU's.
My gratitude and appreciation to all the folks who have generously created this treasure website!

Hello,

Welcome to the forum.

Once upon a time it wasn't uncommon to replace the 1227165 ecm from the 86-89 cars with the 1227730 ecm found in 91-92 Camaros and Firebirds. The 1227730 installs inside the car and is functionally the same as the 1227727 ecm that was mounted under the hood of the 90-91 Vette. You can re-use one connector from the '165 but you will need to obtain an additional connector from a donor vehicle or an internet seller. The pins from the '165 connectors can be removed with a special tool and reinstalled in the 7730 connector so you won't have to cut too many wires. The MAF sensor is replaced with a MAP sensor and the ESC module and original knock sensor are removed and set aside while a newer knock sensor is installed.

Feel free to detail your progress. It may help someone else trying to do the same thing.
