GM 16147609 TCM Code BACX (http://www.stevenrhine.com/?p=4066)

Like to know how to

change shift points,
the Diesel engine speed sensor how many pulses etc how can I pick it up from an older late 70's 454 gas engine.

Anyone have bench wiring so I can bench test this TCM?

Thanks.

As far as I know there is zero support for that TCM, barely any FREE support for the PCM in the EFI diesels that followed.

TunerCat supports the 16147609 TCM. Its mask $A6. See the listing here:

http://www.tunercat.com/tnr_desc/ecm_sup.html

So with the usual chip reading and burning tools, you can recalibrate it.

Most that I've seen who even swapped one in eventually ditched it and went with an opti-shift. And if I'm not mistaken, that TCM will only work with the 91-93 4l80e that didn't use a vssb for the speedo(both speed sensors went straight to the controller, even 4x4's had a output reluctor 7nlike 94+), only worked with the early pcs that required a "cleaning cycle", and didn't work well with 4x4's in 4low. These are all reason's why I've seen people ditch them on diesel's(I'm on a diesel forum with mostly 6.5's/6.2's). I know my neighbor asked me to look into helping him swap a 4l80e into his 88, and it looks like we'll be going with a 7427 in it.

That's interesting, thanks. Its a shame those TCMs are so hard to find, I have a manual pump 6.5 that needs one.

I managed to reprogram the shift points and TCC lockup with the 6.5 PCM, but there are underlying issues with the manual pump conversion and TPS problems.

Hello, thanks for the pics. I have never worked on one of those TCM's. Can you take a pic of the connector? Also please post the BACX 27128 bin file. If there is a repository somewhere of these TCM's bin files I would appreciate a link. :)

Also, maybe we should start a post of all of our prom programmers, I haven't seen one like yours, looks nice.

Once i get it all working correctly i will do a write up on my blog www.stevenrhine.com (http://www.stevenrhine.com) and post link to all details once it is done.

I did get me some connectors at the junk yard today to make a bench test rig.. Sadly the same TCM someone took the blue connectors and smashed the box and PCB..

I learned that misc connectors are .50ea at the junk yard No to bad!

But a little file work i got 2 universal connectors +a few others.. Will be making me a OBD1 Test Harness..

I had a long day.. have to get some universal hoses and should not leak coolant. With trans wired for manual shift should be able to use i on short runs. All radiator mounts and bolts are on including bottom rubbers....

PLEASE NOTE: Not My Conversion I bought this thing cheap for a farm truck and this thing is a wiring mess and budgies all over.. I will show a photo of upper coolant hose wow how many splices in the morning!!
Right now i need to get visible issues done.. engine seems strong.. but a filthy mess..

I have the same TCM with a AXNA chip. The unit is out of an 93 van. And I also have the 4L80E trans and harness.
The transmission has a Goodwrench label on it, so that tells me that has been rebuilt. The transmission ID tag has a date code of 1995. Now the AXNA chip must be a custom chip for the updated rebuild. The VSS sensors are the black higher frequency type.
I plan on testing this in my 86 Monte Carlo in the future.
