Have a 91 Cavalier Z-24 3.1, manual. Looking at resto-modding, performance (if any can be had out of it) and some fun.

Nice to see fans of the old J cars are still around. I've got an '89 Sunbird GT and a 94 Cavalier RS. 93-94 was the peak for the J body platform imo. There's plenty of performance to be found in a 60 degree V6, especially if you're willing to swap the 3.1 for a later engine.

Actually quite a bit of power can be had from that 3.1L engine if you're willing to rebuild the engine utilizing generation 3 heads, intake and pistons. The 60degv6 hybrid engines when tuned perform well.
