I know SD makes a base for $400, but that takes the "budget" aspect out of my TBI to MPFI project. I'd planned on using my existing Vortec carb intake with TBI adapter and fashioning my own rail brackets, but I find myself lusting after the long runners of the TPI for towing, etc.

Has anyone dabbled in making an OEM TPI base fit Vortec heads? I know the runners and bolt holes would need a little work. But is it even possible?

i think the issue with the the vortec tpi intake is the runner height either with adapting a stock intake or the high priced afternarket unit. i seem to remember someone on TGO trying this but it was many years ago or i am confusing it with something else. fast355 has ran various combinations of vortec headed tpi engines hopefully he will chime in.

Possible but not something for the faint-hearted. The intake fitment/angle with Vortec heads is different than pre-Vortec and would be subject to oil and water leaks. Buy the SD intake and use proper gaskets with sealant to prevent any leakage (Edelbrock 7235 or GM 89017465). Edelbrock is same as GM but a little cheaper.

There are some marine manifolds available if you scour ebay and CL daily. If you have the time and tools it appears injectors could be added to this one:

Oh my plan was to use my current Edelbrock performer with some injector bungs welded in. But the long runners of TPI sound perfect for a truck...
