Hi, New Member here. Located in Orange County, So Cal. Have 87 chevy pickup I'm trying to get ready for smog inspection. My ECM has wrong chipset and I think that's the reason it runs rich. I need chips for 5.0L / 700R4. No mods or upgrades to engine now or planned. Can anyone help or suggest where I can purchase or trade my 5.7L chips for what I need? Thanks, Dave

Dang, I literally just UV erased a 91 5.0l 700r4 ARPH chip this morning to burn a 5.7l chip, and you don't live that far from me....... Do you have the 1227747 ECM?

Yes, I'm using 1227747 ecm with AKWA chipset. The truck had not run since 2011, had no computer at all when I got it and was missing a few other fuel / emissions parts. The most confusing issue was the IAC motor. The PO replaced the connector but wired it backwards. It took me months to get the idle down where it belongs. I have a cable from Red Devil River and tunerpro RT, logging data shows closed loop running rich. I'm afraid to take it for smog test and fail.

Update to last post: I just looked up the AKWA chip info and found the ECM is not 1227747 but most likely 8747.
That explains why the ADTT chips I bought on ebay did not work. I thought the guy I bought them from was a no good so and so. Now It seems it was all my fault. I will have to reach out to him and apologize. And, tomorrow will go buy another ECM with the proper chips.

Wrong chipset indeed! AKWA is for a 5.7l with th400 transmission. I found an AKTN chip I have for a 1227747 ecm, don't know how good it is since I found it with the uv cover missing but here is the bin I just ripped off of it....

Don't the 305's have smaller injectors too? From memory they do and if so, make sure you have the correct injectors to match the chip.

The checksum(801C) is correct so it looks like a good bin and the sun didn't get to it. :)

Thanks. I saved it, but I'm not quite sure how to make use of it just yet. I'm really new at this. I intend on obtaining another ECM tomorrow. This time I will make certain it is a 1227747 with chips for a 5.0L / 700R4
My current box was obtained for me by a friend who thought I had a 350. Neither of us knew it was 1228747 as it was marked 7747 in yellow junkyard paint. It runs pretty good, really.

Correct, they are smaller. and I checked the numbers when I cleaned them. they are the 305 size. The truck had no ECM at all when I got it, so I started from scratch, more or less.

c5wagner being nearby is a plus as he can just burn you a stock chip that matches your combo. I'm up in Fresno but that's a few hours away, always nice to have local help.

Except I go through about 3-5 stock 2732a chips to get 1 good one that erases and burns right....... I do have that one good (according to In-Tech) stock 305 chip and I have a ton of 28 pin eeproms but that is a different problem with the 1227747 ECM. You can PM me if you do end up needing that AKTN chip.

I order a few from these guys every couple of years, who knows how long the inventory will last. Here is a link for the 2732a, obviously no plastic GM holder, just the eprom. I don't know any other place in the USA with stock. Also, $50 minimum.

What the heck, I just ordered 10 more, probably last me the rest of my life, lol.

I'm waiting on some ST 2732a chips, the company I ordered from said they are shipped directly from China.......

Ya, I do some of the china chip stuff on occasion, I've been buying small quantities from these guys since forever so I guess I am sentimental. :innocent:

Is there a reason you guys don't go to a ZIF socket and 27SF512 chips? Or are these for other folks?

For the OP, I use the 28 pin eeproms myself. Either the SST 27SF512 or Winbond W27C512..........

I kinda figured, the EEPROMS are the way to go. I read somewhere the 2732A will lose its memory after a some (maybe 30) years? What's the difference between the SST and the Winbond?

I get the winbond for about $0.50 a piece where the SST are about $5.00 a piece; however, the Moates Burn 2 only works with the SST, I have the MCUmall GQ-4 programmer and minipro tl866cs which will burn just about everything......

Hmmm, I guess a little longer programming (10.5 seconds) between the two but 10% the cost makes it okay....

Hiya, the majority of the time with 7747, I have a 7747 with a socket and emulator(pocketrom https://secure.transtronics.com/osc/product_info.php/cPath/56/products_id/329 I know it's old school and so am I, I have two and never a failure, many many years) pretty much hard wired to it. I tune with the emulator and then burn the chip and send the customer down the road after verifying that everything matched from the emulated 7747 and the final chip in their own 7747. If it is your own vehicle, of course you could do it differently.
I am curious if you have any data that can explain how an eprom(or a prom for that matter) substrate can change without outside interference. I also like your question about the difference between the two eeproms.
Thanks for your time. :)

I'm not sure where I read about the EPROM's limited life, something to do with the oxide layer, I think. Maybe someone else here can shed some light? I just remember thinking to myself, "hmmm good for 20+ years and my truck is 31?"

Haha, yep. Around the year 2000 "somebody" posted that an eeprom could only handle about 30,000 writes, so I wrote up some "burner code" to try and kill a cell, it would write a different bit each write and erase. After about 4 million re-write/erases I finally had a write fail, but the very next erase and write went fine, so I let it run another 100,000 or so and shut it down. LOL There's alot of internet folklore out there. :)

Hey Guys, ddiamondav here. at last post I discovered my ecm was 1228747 bcc AKWA. So I ordered another ecm that was advertised as for 5.0L, which is what I need. Guess what I got instead? It is marked AKSN which is for a 4.3L manual transmission. At least it is a 1227747 box, but now I still need the chips for my 5.0L 700R4. How can I hook up with whoever it was that had the one I need?

It sounds like you have the right equipment now. I don't know Cwagner personally but it sounds like he could help you especially being close by.
