new member/eehack; compability Windows 10?

Hi, I´m a new member since yesterday. Seems to be a nice community you have here!
I´m living in Stockholm, Sweden and bought a Buick Roadmaster Wagon -95 last spring. Great car!
I want to adress an issue at once: I downloaded eehack http://fbodytech.com/eehack-2/download-eehack/ to be able to read my PCM.
It seems to be fine with the actual reading (cable connection with PC and running Windows 10 op system), everything seems to be as it should.
The display message after done is that it read succesful. The problem is the saving.
The files are not showing in the folder I directed it to, folder is empty. File Explorer, however, show them in "Recent" mode but the file is empty; 0 byte.
I´ve downloaded the program twice, made an exception for the program and files in firewall (Norton), Windows firewall is not active.
What could be the problem here? Bugs with the program and Windows 10?

someone else had a problem with bin reads being saved before. i forget what the solution is but i'll try to dig up the old thread.

in the meantime, if you have the calibration number i probably have the bin on my site

Thanks for looking in to this! If you can find the solution it would be great. Concerning the calibration number I don´t really know what it refers to. Where can I find it?

in the main datalog window, after you've connected and have started logging, bottom center of the screen. says CAL ID#

Ok, thanks! So this bin is what I should work with: 16209321 (Buick Roadmaster EW -95)?
Just so I get you right; should I write the bin to the PCM and thereby be able to save the datalog through eehack? If not so, please provide a short manual of how to get about.

you need to learn some real basics before you continue, eehack is an advanced tool. eehack does add some extra logging ability to the bin when you flash, but you won't need any of that yet.

Ok. Maybe Im wasting your time here with too simple questions. I´m not to do the tuning myself (I dont have the skills or knowledge for it), I just want to be able to read the PCM and to save the datalog so the guy who is doing the actual tuning have some facts. When I receive the tuned material I want to be able to write it to the PCM. Maybe not so DIY but still. In Sweden you cant find people that tune this type of cars. Sadly, but its a fact. So for me the basic reading, saving and writing process is what I need to control. Is there a way to get about that or am I on too deep water?

ah, i understand.

don't worry about writing a bin until you have something to write. consider that eehack's flash write tool is hacked together by me and could ruin your ecm, you might consider using tunercat's winflash tool instead for your first flash. (it's free for 30 days, so just don't install it until you get your new tune). if you do want to use eehack's tool, make sure you datalog a bunch first to make sure you don't get communication errors.

to datalog:

- start car
- press connect
- open the datalog window and make sure stuff is happening
- drive around a lot
- press save (in the datalog window)

does your tuner even use eehack? if not, the logs might be useless to him

Yes, the guy that will do the tuning was the one who directed me to eehack. Check.
I will try with your tip above. Question: is it safe to drive around with the program connected?
I have a spare pcm. Maybe could be a good idea to put that one in to make sure everything works fine first?

nah

it's more than safe to drive with it connected, it's kind of useless if you don't, in fact. datalogs of you sitting in your driveway don't tell us much unless you're tuning idle

datalogging wont damage your ECM, only writing a bin file will, so to be safe don't do that until you're ready.

there's a 'control' section in eehack which can change some parameters, potentially damaging or stalling your engine, but the changes are temporary -- if you restart your car everything goes back to normal. also i designed it so it's hard to actually cause damage with it. if you want to be 'safe' just leave that closed.

I kind of think a have had a breakthrough! Of course it gathered data perfectly well as you said. Still, the first time after driving around, I had the same disappointing message in the folder: no saved file. But just by changing the location to a folder on the desktop solved the problem. Dont ask me why... So, Ive collected data and sent it to Mr Tuner and we will see whats becoming of it! Maybe I will need some directions installing the tuned file within a week or so. Loads of thanks!
