24x7 flash tool

3 or 4 years ago there were threads using dimented24x7 flash tool. I think maybe the only people that got it to work were computer savy folks. It has been pretty quiet for years. So my question did any ordinary gearheads ever get it to work?

I use it to do bench flashing, it works fine. It has ZERO safety protocols built in, so if you do not know exactly how the original creator intended for it to be used, it's very easy to ruin your PCM with it. There is absolutely nothing that will stop you from bricking your PCM, except knowing how to use the program-and there is no help file other than the instructions in the program.

I bought the AVT-852 cable because it was the cheaper option, then used Tuner Po and the 24x7 dimented tool.

It will only write the same OS to the PCM. If you try to flash a different OS it bricks, if you try to flash certain OS partial writes, it bricks.
If you follow all of the steps exactly as they are, and only stick to the 1 OS and have a proper XDF with all of the parameters you need, you might be ok.

Trust me, its A LOT cheaper to just buy HP Tuners.

You can plug and play, read/write tunes, there's a wealth of info and tune repository to choose from on the forums.
I'm a computer guy, and even for me, the amount of shit you have to go through and learn for it all, it's not worth it, and once you brick a couple of PCMs trying to get shit working, it's really not worth the hassle.

In the past tools were written by one person and they wrote if for them self knowing how to use it. Well that's no longer the case, myself and a group of others have been working on a true low cost method to the masses that's safe and easy to use. Rather then one person doing this solo again we have a team of some of the best guys other there working on this each doing what they do best.

For tuning..... there are a couple of guys working on Xdf's. Right now coverage is limited but that's changing fast. Once again this hasn't fallen onto one person to try and do but a group of people working together with one common goal. 100% Free flashing with cheap hardware. We are getting pretty close to being able to release the read side of this, once we are happy with how it works and will start on the write side of the tool.

I understand that, but the more accurate history of the DIY LS1 tool is that those who successfully do it, commercialise it and the DIY community is left again without a tool. A good indication of that is YouTube videos of a tool working as opposed to usuable versions of the software, or transparency on the code etc.

I'm not saying that's what you're doing, but for the time and money spent on something that may or may not finish, a commercial option that has been tested and verified by the market may be a better option for some.
I'm biased as I tried the cheap alternatives and was burnt, I'm just letting the OP know my experiences and helping them to not walk the same expensive path I did.

I am standing by with a truck, black box and 0411. With the amount of development time I can certainly see why developers switch to commercial deals. When it gets so a non computer person can use it for a few hundred bucks, I just want to say ahead of time I really really appreciate your effort.

A few hundred bucks is still pretty steep for people that just want to make basic changes. The Allpro USB costs $35 bucks, supports 4x speed and 2048 byte blocks. For a non computer person that means's it's about half the largest possible block sizes but is still a very respectable size to be working with and is more then fast enough for in vehicle use with out running into battery voltage issues.

We figured that since it was already going to be a time intensive project we might as well go for a home run and support every device made that had the hardware needed to do this. There are going to be thousands of people that already have devices that will be plug and play with the program making this a win for everyone:rockon:

Not true, I'm using Dimented's flasher to tune cars on a regular basis and it works great. You can change OS without problems. There's one bug that prevents PCM to be reflashed again, but I have described a fix in another topic.
I have yet not been able to brick a PCM and have done hundreds of writes using Dimented's tool :)
