I have a 1988 C1500 with 1227747 ECU. I have a Red Devil River ALDL bluetooth device and ALDLDroid installed on my tablet. The bluetooth device powers up and I am able to connect to it with ALDLDroid but all I get is a msg that says Connected/waiting for ECU data. The bluetooth device blinks about every second like it is sending data, I just don't get any. I used the Tunerpro ADX file that was provided by Red Devil River. So what am I missing??? Any help would be appreciated.

HI
First up check the header in the adx file.

It looks similar to this.
<ADXHEADER>
<guid>d120581b-445a-4c54-aee0-561b7bd21bac</guid>
<flags>0x01</flags>

IF the flag value is 0x01 then the rs232 is checked. Load the adx file into tuner pro and uncheck the the rs232 box. then save.

The header will look like this
<ADXHEADER>
<guid>d120581b-445a-4c54-aee0-561b7bd21bac</guid>
<flags>0x10000</flags>.

The red devil may not like this.

Also check.
<baud>4800</baud>
For this it should be 4800. change this in tuner pro.

Post a copy of the ADX file

Also check the basics.
PIN E data stream 160baud

Thanks for responding. Here is the header info from the ADX file I am using
<ADXHEADER>
<guid>d120581b-445a-4c54-aee0-561b7bd21bac</guid>
<flags>0x10000</flags>

and the baud is

<baud>4800</baud>

ALDLDroid says connected/waiting for data from ecu...

I hope I attached my ADX file correctly...

Thanks SGMBALD!
Got the adx file. on first look it seems ok.
Its late in the day here but I will try it tomorrow on my set up and get back to you.

I tried this file on my setup and it talks to the red devil and displays data on the S8.
So the file is as thought to be ok.

My file is set to 9600 but has the 160 baud command but I tried it both ways and it worked. I cant remember where I saw to put it to 9600.
Any way after using my device for the fist time in 12 weeks I thought of something. Even though in the settings you can check the auto connect box in ALDL droid it sometimes does not connect the red devil.
when Using it this time I had to connect by going to the 3 bar menu top right and hit Connect to ECU. this will cause the leds to blink and then connect. I don't know if you have tried this.

When you connect the red devil the CEL light will be on. When the data stream starts the light will flick more on than off. My light is a led and I can just see a flicker.

Thanks for testing the file. At least I know now that that is not the issue. I will continue to look at other things... I don't recall my CEL light coming on when I connect the red devil. Are you connecting the red devil with the motor running or with the power off?

The red devil is connected with ign off. Ign on the cel light comes on. Start engine then the red devil connects and the cel light flashes.
If the cel light is not on this may indicate a problem with the sensor wire. Pin B.
Try putting a 10k resistor across pin A & B with ign on, the cel light will flash. If this does not work then the red devil wont work.

Ok thanks. I will pay attention to the CEL light today when I try it again.

plugged everything up this morning and I do not get a CEL light flashing. I can cross A and B with a paperclip and get the CEL light to flash codes. A you saying cross A and B like I am reading codes, but use a 10k resister instead of a paperclip?

Ok, the check codes works. Just for the sake of checking with a 10k resistor I would do it to eliminate it.
Also check pin E on the socket for damage, and if the pin is in the right spot.
If you use the 10k resistor and it works, the data will usually keep going when you remove it. You could then plug the blue tooth unit in and see if its receiving it.
The red devil flashes a 10k across A & B when it connects to start the data.

Going to have to order a 10k resister and give it a try. No more Radio Shacks in my area... Thanks for all your help. Will let you know how it goes when I get one in and I get back in town in a few weeks...

MQQN28, I am back in town and my 10k resisters are in. So am I suppose to take a 10k resister and connect pins A and B and then plug in my RDR bluetooth and try to get data that way?

Yes. Thats the plan. When you put the resistor across a/b it should keep going when you remove it till you turn the ign off.
Plug the blue tooth in and let it comnect.
If the data does not start with the 10k there is a problem
The CEL light will flicker when the data starts.

OK so here is what happened when trying to use the 10k resister. With the resister crossing pins A and B turned the key to run but did not start. I went to ALDLdroid and connected to the bluetooth and I got battery voltage, TPS voltage, IAC position and coolant temp. I could see the voltage and coolant temp change. I then disconnected started the truck and No data. I removed the resister and I can get data streaming as long as the truck is not running........ CEL never flashes ..... Halfway there.....

Ok sounds like its doing something. I'm not sure what order you are doing this.
With the engine running put the 10k across A/B remove it and plug in the red Devil.

If you turn the ign off this will reset every thing. You may not see the cel light flash, I've got a LED and its very bright, they are not always the same.
It sounds like you forced the data to stream. You have to see why it does not start the normal way.

Note if you start this with the IGN on and then start the truck, this will possibly rest again. Depending on the wiring configuration the power on the ALDL plug can flash off when you hit the starter.

I've got Data now!!!!! Here is what I ended up doing. I plugged a USB cable from the bluetooth to my tablet and then plugged the bluetooth into the ALDL. turned the key to run and connected. Then I started the vehicle and the USB cable kept the power to the bluetooth so it did not have to restart and It worked. Once it is working I am able to unplug the USB cable and still get data. Now I can start troubleshooting. Thanks for all the help.....
