Hi.

New here, looking for all that good info you may need when reprogramming ECM's. Applications are usually engine transplants and today's subject is a 96 LT1.

auto or manual?

iron or aluminum heads?

if it's a manual, transpant a 94-95 ecm in it so you can use my stuff.........

4L60E and I believe iron heads. Donor was a 96 Caprice ex police car.

I have some experience with Ford EECIV, both SD and MAF, this GM project is somewhat new to me although I did get a 3.8 V6 running in a Fiero for a friend previously. I have read about the 94/95 ECM's and the support on the pre OBDII applications is amazing compared to the similar generation Ford. Even the 4L60E may not be much of an obstacle, although the GM transmission management appears to be even more puzzling than Ford. Main goal is to turn off the post CAT O2 sensors as this project is a transplant into a 57 Chev. No VATS of any sort in the donor, although I recall using a 50 hz signal to fool the VATS in the Fiero project so many years ago. I'll post up questions in the appropriate forum as they happen and I'm going to search the extensive knowledge already here first.

will you buy tuning software? or...

if you want to keep it stock-ish and just ditch the vats and rear o2s, there is this guy i know that will fix up your ecm for you

Yup, that is pretty much the plan and I still am considering a tuning software purchase. Donor was a 9C1 package with no VATS, but we will not be running cats and no need for the post cat O2 sensors. Would certainly like to get the PCM done, but I'm up in Saskatchewan Canada and shipping gets to be a problem. Got a line on some local support, but I'm going to try to learn the lingo a bit and that's why I'm here.
