actually thats a very valid question that isnt documented well enough

its from the driver's perspective. in other words cyl 1=bank 1=left=drivers side.

this principle also holds with most service manuals, even though you are always backwards when working on an engine installed in a vehicle

i originally intended to use port/starboard, since im a boat guy, and port is less ambiguous than "left", but then i remembered most car guys are not also boat guys.
