I've been tracking issues with a 16183247 ECM ( '95 OBD1). It was running fine, and then suddenly won't work properly. I've tried everything, and am down to one last potential variable- the stock MEMCAL. I'm using a MEMCAL from the Donor car ( '95 Riviera L67), with a prom burned with a Burn1, and a Moates Adapter.

My Question: Would a bad MEMCAL cause issues with Temp readings( ECT, IAT, TRANS), Voltage Readings,Fans not running, etc? Can an L67 MEMCAL be replaced with and L27 ( NA) MEMCAL, or does the Memcal have to match the prom and engine. Hard to find L67 PCM's in the local junk yards.

Thanks

I can't say yes to your question.

What I can say is a Memcals can cause some unusual behavior. I recently helped with an engine swap, simple enough. out goes the 350 and in goes the 383 (pcm 16197427 / 1995 TBI). So for some UNKNOWN reason, the original 5.7 memcal wont start the new 383 engine. Tried 3 different 350 Memcals from the same part # 16197427 pcm, engine still won't start. In a "What in the World is going on":mad1:, I installed a memcal from a 454 same part number 16197427 pcm, engine runs fine.:jfj:

I would try the L27 Memcal. Of the many functions the Memcal does, the L27 and L67 share the cylinder select ( 4cyl / 6cyl / 8cyl) voltage. Of the many functions the Memcal does, the Limp Home mode and Knock Sensor Filter would likely be different. I would only install the L27 Memcal long enough to figure out if the L67 Memcal is the problem, maybe a couple minutes of engine run time?

Just closing this thread out ( I hate "dangling" threads). Could not discover the problem, but got lucky and was able to return the engine for refund. Now starting an install of a newer 3800SC series II that is OBDII. Hopefully, better results.

Thanks
