Manual vs Automatic transmission

Trying to get everything ready to convert my CJ-7 AMC 304 to a TBI using the parts pieces from a GM late 80's early 90's. My question, and I think I already know the answer, is does the donor vehicle have to have a manual transmission. Most of the donor vehicles have automatics. I'm thinking because the system is older it does not use the ECM to control the transmission so I am good in using a donor vehicle regardless of the transmission installed.

The older ECM's controlled the TCC for the 700R4 and also controlled the Kick Down on the TH400. There should be an option to set "Manual Trans" in the .bin file (Chip).
