i do have sockets, but i need another one pretty badly.

i have my spare ecm at work but the damn sockets i got wont take solder. whatever they're tinned with is really nasty. i have to try acid to clean them up.

You can try flux paste for copper pipes. It works really well.
Aspirin also cleans very well. Melt it with the solder iron and rub the pins.
