Here is one body list.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GM_platforms

It's a wiki so I think it is legal to copy it.

I saw another simpler list somewhere. another Wiki i thougt :rolleye:

Nice link! :thumbsup:

Here's another from Wiki better in it tells how to use vin number for engine code too
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Numbers_(VIN_codes)/GM/VIN_Codes

I know of others but they are pre EFI era. Maybe we can compile our own for the EFI years to cover Body letter code. Would be a lot easier to match to ALDL files and get the correct one, like below?
Vin = P is engine and the Y and B are bodies. Sometimes it'a hard to figure correct data stream for car without some research...

DATA STREAM A275
ENGINE USAGE:
5.7L MFI (LT1) (VIN = P) 1994 1Y - CAR MANUAL TRANSMISSION
* 5.7L SFI (LT1) (VIN = P) 1995 1Y - CAR MANUAL TRANSMISSION

DATA STREAM A276
ENGINE USAGE:
5.7L SFI (LT1) (VIN = P) 1994 1,4B 6D - CARS
4.3L SFI (L99) (VIN = T) 1994 1B - CAR
* 5.7L SFI (LT1) (VIN = P) 1995 1,4B 6D - CARS
* 4.3L SFI (L99) (VIN = W) 1995 1B - CAR

That was the one.

It would be nice to expand your table with more entries.

I've been looking at trying to go from the ALDL INDEX.DOC info to what is found in the BCC lookup.xls table. I thought I could get closer. I was hoping to write a program to do the matches, but I cannot get even close to coming up with an algorithm.

Here is what I found for my car. Not even sure what year. It is a 93 model year. BCC lookup.xls lists as 1992. This data is from INDEX.DOC.

How found? ECM sticker to BCC lookup.xls to INDEX.DOC.

DATA STREAM A167
ENGINE USAGE:
2.2L MFI LN2 (VIN=4) 1992 1J,L
2.2L MFI LN2 (VIN=4) 1993 1J,L,W,3A,4A

Here is my car in my car data from the BCC lookup.xls table. I made it a one line excel sheet. I found this via looking at the sticker on the ECM.
Corsica-16184461-BCZB.xl

(http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/attachment.php?attachmentid=1481&stc=1&d=1327007121)Now I want to reverse the search.

This is as far as I can get with the data from INDEX.DOC for my car. I am using 2.2L, LN2. How do I get farther?
aldl-a167 to bcc table.xls‎ (http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/attachment.php?attachmentid=1482&d=1327007121)

I'm not sure how clear I am on this. Ask away.

Well there's a online BCC project being built now that will replace the BCC lookup xls and do it online for you and if the bin is in the library give it to you.

Not sure how to answer your question thouhg? ALDL INDEX.DOC is for data acqusition which has the info how to make an ADX file for TunerPro.

The BCC lookup is to see what a bin file is for...

The TunerPro Lookup tells what files are needed for it to work...

You'd like to combine all three?

I know about your effort. I was hoping to add to it.

I'm in the process of converting INDEX.DOC to Excel. I'm doing only the Engine entries.
Here is where I found INDEX.DOC

Please see post #1 in this thread.
http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/showthread.php?527-ALDL-DataStream-Information-as-Excel-XLS&p=4164#post4164

Here is what I have. (( THere could be mIstakes. ))

dataStreamTable.xls

Now, I would like to merge this with

BCC lookup-1 copy.xls
Here is where I found the xls
http://www.ihonlynorth.com/forums/at...bcc-lookup.xls (http://www.ihonlynorth.com/forums/attachments/fuel-injection/9958d1274202604-faq-parts-required-bcc-lookup.xls)

I do not seem to have enough data in my uploaded file, to do the merge.

Worthy project! :thumbsup:

Espeacilly if your good with Excel and stuff. Not my forte... but what are you needing to continue?

I do not have enough information to make good matches between the data. All I have to match on is from INDEX.DOC:
engine displacement 2.2l
engine type: LN2
year: 1993 ( and am not sure if the is the model year, or the development year. )

my understanding is that vin (vin=4) is a short hand for LN2 used in the large VIN for the car.

any more tables to look at?

I did the conversion in Java to CSV then excel to xls.

The description of the many data stream includes the following. I don't get what these numbers/letters mean. What does the number mean?
1J,L,W,3A,4A

The letter is the body code.

J = Cavalier
L = Corsica
W = Westin ( canadian version )

DATA STREAM A167
ENGINE USAGE:
2.2L MFI LN2 (VIN=4) 1992 1J,L
2.2L MFI LN2 (VIN=4) 1993 1J,L,W,3A,4A

my body code list doesn't have 'A' anyway. & 'W' could be something else.

This has more body types ( It's a repost. )
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GM_platforms
even the A & W.

They
1J,L,W,3A,4A
confuse me as well?

But I did cut and paste engine codes into a spreadsheet. Most of the work I did in the TunerPro XDF and ADX lookup project are based on engine RPO codes. I was at a blank with the same ones as you...

RobertISaar

example:

1J,L,W,3A,4A

1 J means 1st division(chevrolet), J-body (cavalier), L-body(beretta/corsica) and W-body(lumina/monte carlo).
3A means 3rd division(oldsmobile) A-body (cutlass ciera)
4A means 4th division (buick) A-body (skylark, i think?)

anyway:

1 = chevrolet
2 = pontiac
3 = oldsmobile
4 = buick
5 = ???
6 = cadillac (IIRC)
7 = GMC (IIRC)

i think saturn is in there somewhere, but if you think about them long enough, you'll figure it out.

EagleMark

I beleive 6 is correct for Caddilac because the LT1 came in a caddilac in a D car. 1 or 1B would be Chevy. 4B would be Buick and 6D would be the Caddy. So number is Make and letter is body.

5.7L SFI (LT1) (VIN = P) 1995 1,4B 6D - CARS

EDIT: Vin = P I beleive is for engine RPO from an earlier link. But Vin = P was used on 2 engines...

P
LT1
5.7 L
V8
SFI

P
LSJ
2.0 L
SC Straight-4|I4
SFI

Could 5 be Holden?

RobertISaar
01-21-2012, 11:42 PM
holden, saturn, isuzu, lotus, ???

really don't know, not a lot of 5 in that document anyway, IIRC.

but yeah, it's a make/model code.

Just found this in a search, 5 may be GMC... There was no mention of 7, but this was earlier years but all corresponded to Roberts original interpretation.

1st digit - GM Division
1 = Chevrolet
2 = Pontiac
3 = Oldsmobile
4 = Buick
5 = GMC
6 =Cadillac

Thanks to the two of you.

What does it mean when there is not number? There are a lot of choices in this table.

Could it mean ALL? Just a thought some would be missing.:innocent2:

Lumina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Lumina)

Could be all W cars... if it says W body... the lists I have seen on WikiPideia are not complete and may not be totally accurate either...

RobertISaar
01-26-2012, 01:34 AM
yeah, generally, if you see just a letter, that's implying all divisions that had a model for the platform.

EagleMark

I'm old... I just can't get a grip on all these body style body platforms, I wouldn't know a w car from a j car unless it was painted on the side. I've really done a lot of searching for a list of cars or explination and best I could do was the Wiki Link which is far from accurate or complete...

B car I understand because I had a Caprice and now a Buick it also covers Impala SS but a Caddilac which I thought was the same I am told is a D car?

As far as Cavileirs, cutlass, Corsica, Luminas (and the Monte Carlo in your sig) etc... they all look the same to me? As a Gearhead I should know this stuff but my real goal is to match ALDL.ds files to cars to complete the TunerPro Lookup (which I got another couple hours into yesterday) and when it comes to these I'm just lost?

1) The results of 1project2many's BCC query comes out with platform & car information. Was accurate for my car. I was impressed.

Perhaps you could find the info there.

2) Maybe you could find this guy.

Bret Henson
G.M. Data Stream Information Guy
His name appears in A309.ds

3) Insurance companies should have this info. Maybe it's close hold to prevent thieves from getting ahold of the info.

4) Could try to contact the author of the Wiki author. He implies he know more at least the meaning of the VIN codes He says every year has a different set of codes.

anyway) I am continuing on my INDEX.DOC to xls project. I'm working on the division / platforms stuff.
