Anyone ever switch a Toyota 22re engine to a GM ECM? If so which one?

My kid has a 22re MAF in a 86 truck and I would like to be able to tune it but the factory ECM doesn't seem to have any hacks I have found...

I'm sure it could be done but not sure what ECM to start with? Keep the MAF or go S/D?

if you want to go SD, then pick up a 7727/7730 and run it as $A1, it supports 4 cylinder MPFI. i may or may not be working a MAF patch into it as well...

not sure about MAF... most of the OBD1 masks that were MAF based were also SFI, with the exception of the 85-89 TPI V8 motors, but i'm not the biggest fan of those...

Cool! Thanks! Just told my kid and he's excited! and I have a 7727 underhood ECM here on the shelf, but may be better to go 30 depends on the origanal harness looks...

i'd go for the 7727, since it would allow you to mount it in-cabin or underhood without issues. it would also allow using a 16149396 if it would ever be necessary.

Is the 16149396 the one I see underhood of FWD V6 type cars?

the '9396 is an 'upgraded' version of the 7727, it has extra RAM, but otherwise, it's identical.

How exactly does extra RAM help in a car computer? If it's the same as a laptop or desktop computer I understand.

Would the OS be the same? Mask? Tuning ability?

EDIT: Also do you know if this is capable of TBI and MPFI?

That's exactly what Lucky has, Toyota 22re, run by a '7727 (simply because his vehicle spends a lot of time topless), running $59, due to being turbocharged.

If it was me, I might look at using S_AUJP, since it has some additions like WBO2 logging.

Hey Robert how are you tuning the $A1 code ? I have a cpm here for that code that runs the factory information display screen but I could never find a definition file to let me tune it so I never installed it.

Eaglemark - whatever ecm you use make sure you have a memcal from a 4 cyl mpfi model to go into it or it won't work correctly - been there - I'm not sure if a 4 cyl memcal from a tbi application will work in an mpfi application if you're using an Ostrich ? Anyone know that ?

The way I understand the hardware cyl select is that the MEMCAL will need to be from a 4cyl MPFI application, or modificed to mimick that.

correct, i have a few pics/instructions for modifying V6 MEMCALs into V8, it should be simple enough to reverse the concept.

well, the extra RAM was utilized in the $DF mask for various things due to having more stuff to control, and in the $A1 mask as well if you have the F31 transmission option enabled.

and the 7727/7730 was used in quite a few MPFI applications, and IIRC, at least one TBI application(the 2.5 duke lumina comes to mind)
